    3. Hi list, I have some potential missing people before the 1841 census -- particularly around the time of the American Revolution. It had occurred to me that around 1776-1790 there may have been some of my ancestors could have been part of the soldiers who went to America to fight for the Crown as well as those Loyalists on Colonial land who also fought. Does anyone know of any lists for that war... And then there is the War of 1812... Surname: PORTAS and any variation spellings. Any help or leads would be appreciated. 3. The United Empire Loyalist Association has a website with a lot of information and list of names: www.uelac.org There is also a rootsweb mail list for United Empire Loyalists. Soldiers were not necessarily classed as "United Empire" loyalists. The UE designation was usually given to people who suffered losses of property in the American colonies, as well as fought for the Crown. I don't see Portas on the uelac list of loyalist names, but he could still have been a soldier who fought in the revolution.
