My wife has ancestors who were Loyalists in New York state. They were "hounded" out of the state after the American Revolution and moved up into lower Ontario where they were designated as "United Empire Loyalists", so that is a term you can use to search for more information on those folks. My wife's relatives are also part of the group of Canadians who rebuffed an American invasion in 1814 at Chrysler's Farm. There used to be an active local history group in the area (near Morrisville), but I have no current contact data. It had occurred to me that around 1776-1790 there may have been some of my ancestors could have been part of the soldiers who went to America to fight for the Crown as well as those Loyalists on Colonial land who also fought. Does anyone know of any lists for that war... And then there is the War of 1812... Surname: PORTAS and any variation spellings. Any help or leads would be appreciated.
