    3. My G Grandad James Richards 1850 lived with his wife Harriet Gertrude Simpson 1851in St. Martin, Lincs. I found them on the relevant census's along with their children William Henry 1874, Charles Edward 1875, Jane Elizabeth 1878,Alice Gertrude 1880 - 1882, James 1883, Herbert 1887 and Edith Mary 1890. On the 1911 census it says they had 9 children but only 6 living, I've managed to find the 7 mentioned but can't find the other 2 who obviously died young. Would there be records made of still born babies ? These two must have been born and died between census's at some time. Any help with this would be much appreciated. 3. Hi Barbara Firstly stillbirths were not registered before 1927 However much depends on the understanding of the rules by the person filling in the 1911 schedule The question in 1911 was :- Children born *alive* to present marriage (sub questions) Total children born alive Children still living Children who have died Answers expressed in numbers I have found several schedules where the person included all children, even to more than one marriage, I have also found total children including a known stillbirth (knowledge from a burial where stillbirths are sometimes recorded) So if the mother considered that any stillbirths were her children (as she had carried them to full term but were delivered dead) it is possible she included them in the total It is always a very emotive issue and what caring husband would refuse his wifes desire to record those children? As I mentioned it may be worth checking for burials but far from all stillbirths burials were recorded, they were often just put in with another burial and not recorded I would exhaust any possible birth registrations and baptisms first Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > My G Grandad James Richards 1850 lived with his wife Harriet Gertrude > Simpson 1851in St. Martin, Lincs. 3. Hello Barbara Try looking through Free BMD and seeing what children named RICHARDS were born and died as infants/young children between the censuses. There are a few who could have belonged to your RICHARDS family. Look at the "gap" years between the births of children known to have lived as this family seems to have had their children close together. I would suggest between Charles and Jane and between James and Herbert, and possibly between Herbert and Edith..... Maybe if you know more about James and Harriet's families you will be familiar with possible/probable given names for their children. I did not find a birth reg for William Henry in the Lincoln reg dist - was he born before the parents marriage? You could also go to your local LDS church and see if they have a Family History Centre - if they do then you could order the relevant PRs on film and check for baptisms/burials for children in this family. OR, you could send away for copies of birth and/or death certs of ones you think might be yours (a bit costly) but I know in the past you could specify who the parents should be. I don't know if this option is still available. Good luck Elizabeth Pugh Yukon Canada
