Pam & others, Thanks for the response (quite late at night for you I imagine?) Of the 2 alternate birthplaces I believe Ashby Puerorum is most likely as it is the village immediately south of Salmonby & John's parents probably farmed between the 2 places. I have verified on FreeBMD & FreeREG his death in 2nd qtr 1861 The marriage has also been located, but for the life of me I can't find the birth nor death of Alice. For her birth I've perhaps got to get access to the PR for Hundleby? Her death is a strange affair. Whilst she is shown on the 1861 census with husband John I can't find a subsequent death in the mid/late 1860's. However, in Spilsby RD there is a FreeREG burial of an Alice DAVISON = #1 Record Type Burial Date Surname Forename County Place Name Burials 16 Sep 1860 DAVISON Alice Lincs Welton le Marsh. Person's name and place of residence are OK but have BOTH Ancestry and FreeREG transcribed it wrongly? (Alternatively, John entered wife on the 1861 census wrongly! (Perhaps he still missed her?) FreeREG has a marriage of a John Davison and an Alice Dickison at West Keal on 24 Nov 1800. This may or may not be your John and Alice. Hello Peter. I have checked the transcript for the Welton Le Marsh burials and the entries for DAVISON are correct. However there is one other entry that sounds like yours - 20th January 1867 Alice DAVIDSON age 89 of Welton. I have rechecked this against the register, and the spelling of the surname has been recorded correctly. >From the transcription of Hundlesby parish records, there is a baptism of Alice DICKINSON on 14th March 1779, the daughter of Thomas and Sarah. Mick, Thanks for checking. The 1867 version sounds much better - even though a D has snuck into the surname. I'll have to view & print it ASAP (& also revise the update I put on Ancestry!!) I see that the same has happened with her baptism in that an N has got into the middle! This situation has reminded me in my occasional jaunts into in depth research I can also use the FreeREG/FreeBDM facilities, so thanks again. Peter Holmes Western Australia. Hello Peter. There are a number of DICKISON/DICKINSON entries in the Hundlesby registers. To date there are over 2 million entries for Lincolnshire on the FreeReg website. The FreeBMD project is close to completion now and most volunteers will hopefully carry on transcribing for FreeReg. Once that happens i expect a substantial increase in the number of Lincolnshire records we have online. Mick
