    1. [LIN] Help sought REDSHAW Lincs
    2. Renee Redshaw
    3. Dear Listers. A very old sticking point which went by the board in early research. Although being on the List for several years there was never a REDSHAW in sight or sound! It seemed they were very reluctant to move around and stay settled in a particular area. They still appear Lincolnshire in 1500s. The only two I found who actually moved out of Lincs was my late husband's Grandfather - a Groom - who went over the Humber to Selby Yorks as a groom and had a very large family - perhaps he got an offer he could not refuse. The other was a Gt.Uncle off to Canada, built a Timber business which still thrives today. However where I am stuck is at the GT.Gt.Grandfather Edward REDSHAW Birth C1782 and could find no baptism and thus do not know his parents. This also prevents me from knowing which "clan" of the REDSHAWS he belonged to, and can get no further back.. not many marriages around the 1782 time - how to pick one and prove it ?? Edward was Married Frampton to Mary Storey 1814, children born Sutterton where he was farming. Then moved to Rauceby were last child was born 1827, to the Bluebell Public House, and he seemed to have "flirted" with Non-Conformists. Three of his five offspring were baptised and could never find out why the other two were not - till I was looking and found they had been Registered at Dr.William's Library. Redcross Street, near Cripplegate London March 9th 1821, this took care of the 1819 and 1821 births - why would they have been registered and not the formal church baptism? Fortunatelywas able to take copies. I have a copy of "Stability and Change" Rauceby and Edward appears in there a time or two. He died in 1838. Mary his wife took over the Blubell. Sorry it is a lengthy tale , but I have long been wanting to ask for help, hope no-one will mind. Kind Regards, Renee Oz.
