I cannot find this lady beyond 1851 and wonder if some brighter spark out there can. Susannah aka Susan Sewell was born Bracebridge 1815 to John and Ann. She had several illegitimate children in Lincoln House of Industry/Workhouse. They all died young. In the 1851 census she was a servant to a tanner named Richard White in St Peter at Gowts. She gave her age as only 30. The Stamford Mercury Fri 12 Dec 1851 reported "Susan Sewell from Bracebridge to Wellingore." She gave birth to Matthew in Lincoln Workhouse on 23 December. He was baptised there on the same day. I cannot find a record of him dying. The burial register for the Workhouse is missing between 1845 and 1858. Although a death would be recorded in the discharge register there is no register from 1843-1871. Matthew does not show up on the GRO death index. I have checked the burial registers from Bracebridge and Wellingore and found nothing. I am wondering if little Matthew did die but his death was not registered because it fell over the Christmas period. I cannot find Susan or Matthew in any subsequent census, although I have tried just putting her first name and place of birth in. Please can anybody help? Thanks - regards Shay
