    3. If you see 'by' with regard to a Lincolnshire place you can usually bet it's because there are at least two places with the same first part of the name. Then you have Kirton in Holland and Kirton in Lindsey. Plus you have the ones with a plain name, e.g. Langton, but you also have Langton by Partney and Langton by Wragby as well. That Genuki list, good though it is, is not exhaustive. By far the best reference for all the places in Lincolnshire, including tiny hamlets, is the 'A Gazetteer of Historic Lincolnshire for Family and Local Historians' published by Lincolnshire FHS. It, and the companion 'Registration districts and Deaneries 1841-1901' really are worth their weight in gold. (And I say that as someone born in Lincolnshire!) I am currently going back and looking at all the places I have found links with and finding out exactly where they are to get a better idea of the layout of the county. And also to try and work out which indexes I need to buy to try and get further back.Jan > > Date: Mon, 5 Mar 2012 02:29:41 +0000 >> From: pam@five-oaks.co.uk >> To: eng-lincsgen@rootsweb.com >> Subject: Re: [LIN] Asgarby?Spilsby? >> >> Who's not using the link I sent you that ends in LIN/parishes.html ? >> (Fourth one in the email.) >> >> Pam >> Proud to be a member of Lincolnshire Family History Society >> http://www.lincolnshirefhs.org.uk/ >> >> >> On 05/03/2012 02:15, Jan Moon wrote: >>> >>> >>> Why, when you see Asgarby listed somewhere, does it have Spilsby in brackets next to it?Jan >>> >> >> -------------------------------
