    3. I beg to differ the leading apostrophe works with both text and numbers. It allows Excel to treat any letters or characters as text and normal text functionality can be used on the data. In any event I believe that Anne has now solved her problem so its all academic. Cheers, Linda. -----Original Message----- From: Bart Simon Sent: Saturday, March 24, 2012 7:14 PM To: eng-lincsgen@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [LIN] Problem MGC: Putting the apostrophe in only works with numbers. This is not the shortest method, but at least it does work, and you don't have to change any other settings !!! Do exactly the following: In Excel, type BALLANCE Do not press enter yet. Your cursor is flashing at the end of the word BALLANCE. Press shift and Home keys together to highlight the word BALLANCE. Press control key and C key together as though you are to copy the letters BALLANCE. Now just press the enter key. Cheers - SKM. ====================== -----Original Message----- From: Ward Family Tree Sent: Saturday, March 24, 2012 2:38 PM To: eng-lincsgen@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [LIN] Problem Put an apostrophe in front of BALLANCE - the apostrophe will not be visible when you leave the cell. 3. The Apostrophe does work with both but if autocorrect is left running the problem will still occur. If you are using Excel 2003 or later you must go into the proofing options and turn autocorrect off. -----Original Message----- From: eng-lincsgen-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-lincsgen-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Ward Family Tree Sent: Sunday, 25 March 2012 05:58 To: Bart Simon; eng-lincsgen@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [LIN] Problem I beg to differ the leading apostrophe works with both text and numbers.
