I wonder if anyone can shed light on a mystery. Harriett Dawson Fletcher, daughter of William Dawson Fletcher and Jane Stuble/Stubbleday was baptised in North Owersby 2 Jul 1865. I have a marriage certificate giving the following information: Marriage certificate: October 1, 1889 Parish Church in the parish of Bilsby William Hopson Whitton, age full, Widower, Farmer, Bilsby, Father Tobias Whitton, Builder Harriett Dawson Fletcher, age full, Spinster, Bilsby, Father William Dawson Fletcher, Farmer Witnesses: Maria Wilkinson and John Carter. This is clearly "my" Harriett. However, members of the family who still live in the Horncastle area, and the family bible (which I do not have but which I believe to have been put together from memory rather than as the events occurred) maintain that Harriett married a John Ramsden, and one of my cousins still remembers Harriett and John Ramsden as a couple. I have searched every BMD record of a John Ramsden marrying a Harriet (with variation of the spelling) but cannot find one. I did find that William Hopson Whitten died 1910 (registered Spilsby March 1910). Any thoughts, anyone? I realize that "widow Harriet Whitton" might have simply moved in with John Ramsden but am wondering if there is any other explanation, or perhaps there are records that I have not yet accessed. I don't know which moniker he actually used in adult life - he was scarcely mentioned in my childhood. Having two middle names is relatively uncommon (Wyatt was non-Lincs family name) but in his case was rather useful e.g. as his initials were easily confused with his brother so used all three for his WWI records.
