    1. [LIN] Information on death of Edward CARTWRIGHT 1881
    2. Alan Fox
    3. I have the death certificate of my 2nd Grt Grandfather Edward CARTWRIGHT, born abt. 1810 at Silk Willoughby, who was found drowned in 1881. Is there anywhere I might find further information on how,why or where he drowned? According to the death certificate 28 May1881 was the date the Coroner released the certificate not the date of death. From information I have already received Coroners reports are not kept for any length of time. Alan Fox

    3. Alan, You have the date of death. Inquests were usually held on the day of the death, or the day after, unless of course the body was found some time after he drowned. Try the newspaper for that week and the week following (Lincolnshire Chronicle, Lincoln, Rutland & Stamford Mercury) for a report on the inquest. There was a Grantham paper also about at the time I think. There is more about newspapers on the Lincs Genuki pages. I don't know where you are, but Grantham/Sleaford library may be willing to search the relevant paper for the week following the inquest if you ask them nicely, and do you a print-out. 3. Alan, there is something about Edward Cartwright - a notice for claimants from the estate of the deceased - in the Huddersfield Chronicle for 1881 on the British Newspaper archive. Try this link http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/search/results/1881-01-01/1881-12-31?basicsearch=%22edward%20cartwright%22%201881&phrasesearch=edward%20cartwright%20&anysearch=1881&frontpage=false&sortorder=score The Lincolnshire Chronicle is also on the BNA site. I hope this helps.
