________________________________ I am looking for details of the marriage of Thomas WALKER to Elizabeth TRUSWELL.   Findmypast has the marriage at Branston, both bride and bridegroom from elsewhere (ex Lincolnshire Marriage Licence Bonds and Allegation) and gives the date 28 Oct 1746. I have not been able to find the parish register entry on Lincs to the past.  I would very much appreciate any further information especially the parish(es) where the couple came from. Clive Boyce

This is from the introduction to the Marriage Index Vol. 3 (on CD) which covers Branston: "The Parish Registers for Branston, Nocton and Skellingthorpe have been subject to fire damage and as a result are too fragile to access and are also largely illegible. Entries have been obtained from surviving transcripts and BTs but the following should be noted: Branston entries show some significant differences between the surviving sources and Marriage Bonds and a separate entry has been made for the Marriage Bond to indicate in a more accessible manner the difference in these sources." The marriage is in the marriage index for the date you have given, but is from a copy of the register, probably transcribed before the registers were damaged. The entry in the transcript seems to have less information than is on the marriage bond. You would be wise to order a copy of the marriage bond from Lincolnshire Archives, which will give you the parishes of both parties, plus possibly more information about the groom - occupation for instance. Unfortunately I was unable to get all this information into the Marriage Bond index. Most of the parish registers are fire damaged, presumably as a result of the fire on Christmas Day 1962. I suspect that the registers on the Lincolnshire Archives website are the only ones that survived the fire. Mick
