    3. I always thought a building on Fishtoft Road and which back in the 1950s/60s was a boarding school - possibly girls only - was called Skirbeck House. However, my recollection might be a little wonky, as it seems that at one stage the building there was called Skirbeck Hall and seems to have been the rectory for St Nicks church circa 1890. A 1968 map shows Skirbeck Hall College. That building is where Skirbeck Gardens now are. http://goo.gl/maps/n1hB4 I'm not sure if the house is the square-ish grey/white building slightly centre-right, with a red vehicle parked outside. The rectangular building in the bottom right-hand corner is Skirbeck St Nicholas church. *West* Skirbeck House is a listed building, now turned into flats (apartments) http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-486384-west-skirbeck-house-lincolnshire and although it's listed as Garfit's Lane, I would always say that it's on London Road. This is (or was) the entrance to it http://goo.gl/maps/cAXQK That gate is near the 'ond' on London http://goo.gl/maps/xUr95 in the bottom left corner and you can see the drive leading down to the house. It's impossible to see the house from the road as there's a high/thick hedge all the way along the front boundary. http://goo.gl/maps/SmLc2 West Skirbeck House is in Skirbeck Quarter as it's on the west side of the river Witham. It's even designated on the map. :) Bottom left hand corner. The red letter A covers part of the parkland attached to the house, and Skirbeck Quarter is written to the north-east of that letter. http://goo.gl/maps/SLpBr The Quarter goes all the way up to Haven Village (top centre) and the Ship Inn London Road is on the road to the right of the word Haven. If you move that map so that Haven Village (just the name of a new residential 'estate' and not an historical area) is written centre left and look straight across right you'll see Fishtoft Road and then the area Skirbeck shown. I had a relative who had the Ship Inn at Skirbeck, the same family but not the same person also lived at Skirbeck, which I wonder if it is the same Skirbeck House as the listed property that I found (I think) the Heritage Britain site. > > Regards > > Jan > > > > From: Pam Downes > Sent: ‎Tuesday‎, ‎January‎ ‎28‎, ‎2014 ‎2‎:‎08‎ ‎PM > To: [email protected] > > > No. Skirbeck was very much adjacent to Boston, and is now part of the > borough of Boston. > Being picky I would say that the correct address of the Ship Inn is > Skirbeck Quarter, as it's on the west side/bank of the river Witham, > though back in ye older days it may have been plain Skirbeck.
