Thanks Nivard I am not sure when he came to Canada. I do know that he married in 1870. His wife was Jane Travers. I found the Border crossing card on ancestry. He was crossing at Buffalo. I can only assume that the spelling of the last name is correct because his son, my grandfather, was always adamant that Gossling was spelled with two s's. I have more info post 1870 but not much prior to that. GOSSLING b1842 Pinchbeck but he remains in England to 1911 as well So your man was either not registered or that registration was not passed from the local office to the GRO Or for some reason he is using a different name, age or birthplace than that he was registered with So if you have more details please repost them When did he go to ???? (America/Canada or ??) Where did you find the border crossing card you mention? Do you have his fathers name? Do you have any more clues to go on? Saying he was a farmer does not narrow it down I am afraid ;-) NB its always best to start off a new post rather than use a previous one, if you look in the archives you will see why as its stranded within the thread of the previous post you used Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 22/02/2014 12:06, Ron Wingrove wrote: > Hello from Canada > > My great grandfather was James Gossling, born 1852.
