    3. Thanks Victor it is definitely Witton, not Wilton although there is a tendency for Wilton to creep in if reading hand writng eg in army records. Both his father and Grandfather were also Witton . Witton was in the 1911 census in England with his aunt Ellen Dalton, so did not spend much time in Australia before signing up for war and presumably went alone, cant find him on a ship but found this... "Missing Persons in Police Gazette, NSW 17 March 1915 Ditton Kenworthy DALTON About 35 years of age, 6 feet high, slight build, fair complexion, light brown hair, clean shaved, blue eyes, large nose, scar around his throat from a razor, Dressed in a light grey sac suit, grey soft hat, black lace up boots, a clerk, an Englishman, Inquiry at the instance of the chief constable, Sheffield, England, IR 1815 104" I wondered about the scar as the inference seems to be self inflicted, and to have just disappeared must have made family very worried. He ended up in Wilcannia NSW apaprently for a time, (a long way from anywhere then) . and then joined the army in Liverpool NSW. He must have written to his family at some stage as his only sibling Basil and his aunt Ellen wrote to the Army on many occasions, trying to establish what had happened to him. For most of the missing soldiers, they were presumed to be prisoners of war so many families did not find out until much later that they had died. So I do hope to find out what the family grave stone says. And .. as my task is to find a family member... hope to do that. I am looking for his grand mother's family, Kenworthy from Saddleworth. regards Marg OLeary Port Stephens NSW -----Original Message----- From: Victor Markham Sent: Friday, February 21, 2014 11:43 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [LIN] {Spam?} Witton Kenworthy DALTON 1886-1816 Should that be Wilton?
