    3. Many thanks, Nivard. He lived to be 89 and was outlived by his (second) wife - stepmother who basically raised my grandmother who was only six when her mother died. Maybe he assumed everything went to his wife automatically so did not bother with a will. As his old age was spent at "The Lodge" at Usselby I have wondered if it was on the property of a major landowner with whom he had previously been a tenant farmer.
