My quest for my John TEAT (sometimes TEATE or even TATE), blacksmith of Ancaster's antecedents continues. I've done a lot of research on the one born in Baston in May 1760 and I still think he is the wrong one. I posted a version of this message a few months ago but at a quiet time and had no responses, so apologies for re-posting. Two of the newer facts I have on John TEAT b20 October 1760 (he has recorded his DOB himself), based on what he had written in his Prayer Book (detailed in my last post to this list) is that he had a sister who died in 1835 who had an illegitimate son who died aged 40 in September 1837. He doesn't record their names nor where they lived unfortunately. I've found some details for Stonesby, Leicestershire that may be a match. John TEATE, son of John and Alice is baptised there on 26 October 1760. He has a younger sister Frances bap. in Stonesby on 7 March 1762. Frances' son John TEATE (no father) was baptised in Stonesby on 8 April 1798. There is a death record for a John Teat in Melton Mowbray in 1837. The father or the John TEATE married to Alice (SHEPPARDSON) was Francis TEAT who married Mary AYSCOUGH in Great Ponton in 1721. My John TEAT b1760 married in Great Ponton (to Susanna NORTH in 1790) as well and the name Francis is used in the next generation. I've also found a reference to one of the Stonesby Teats being a blacksmith so it's looking positive. Most of this is obviously outside Lincolnshire, but my post to the Leics list wasn't very productive. It did occur to me that I'd heard of Stonesby before and checked Lincs to the Past where I had found John Teat's 1838 Will (image is now online). There is an Admon listed with similar details: http://www.lincstothepast.com/Admon---Teat--John--1838--------/753869.record ?pt=S but the place is Stonesby, Leics and not Ancaster, Lincs. Before I waste any time, energy and money getting a copy, can anyone advise me whether there is a possibility that this document would relate to a Lincolnshire Will. I'm puzzled why it would be included on the Lincs to the Past site if there isn't a connection with Lincolnshire. Any ideas? Sara
