    3. Hello Listers, My Lincolnshire ancestry starts with my mother's paternal grandmother, Diana SMITH (1854-1923), born in Kirton-in-Lindsey. After a good deal of winnowing I was able to trace her correct grandfather, John SMITH (1793-1864), shoemaker, innkeeper, and farmer, of Kirton-in-Lindsey, who belonged to a SMITH line from Scotter, Lincs. His parents were George SMITH (1762-1832), farmer, of Scotterthorpe, Scotter, Lincs., and his wife, Elizabeth ATKINSON (1766-1855). One of his younger brothers was the Primitive Methodist minister, Atkinson SMITH (1800-1852), about whose career a fair amount has been written. Despite his denomination, the SMITHs were normally Church of England folk. George SMITH's father was another George SMITH, a farmer, of Scotter, Lincs. He was born around 1700-1735, but I don't know more about him as I haven't yet found the right burial record for him. The earliest record I have is that, still a bachelor, he was married on 23 Nov. 1758 at Scotter to Tabitha GLUE or GLEW, a spinster, of Scawthorpe in Scotter, Lincs. Tabitha must have died sometime before 29 April 1789 as her widower George SMITH remarried to a widow named Ann RONTREE (presumably a variant of Rowntree) on that date at Cantley in Yorkshire. I cannot trace Tabitha GLUE/GLEW or her family at all, and wonder if anyone knows of it? With such a nice unusual name like that, I was hoping she might be a lot easier to find that my SMITH line, but so far no such luck! Thank you in advance for any help.
