Hi, Karen, I see from the headers on your e-mail that you are using Mac OS, and I am not familiar with Mac software for handling e-mail. But the idea of "mailing lists" when they were first established was that they were a place for people to share, so replies were generally sent back to the whole list. Some e-mail software on desktop systems can be set to override that and allow you to "default" to the individual poster, but the list itself sends out e-mail with a "reply-to" address of the list. We're all in this pot together. As a "list owner" or admin., I don't see this sharing as "clogging up the list", but that is a personal bias. I do know that some topics get a lot more attention than others. Considering how easy it is for most people just to delete any unwanted e-mail, I don't consider this "broadcast" style too big a burden on anyone. On lists that are set to reply only to the poster, people complain that they don't see the replies. But when you have your Mac e-mail open, see what options it supports for incoming e-mail. My old software package used to allow me to override the list settings, but this one does not. We used to be able to send to the individual so we weren’t clogging up the list with non-Lincs messages. Is there any way to send to the individual sender instead of the whole list?
