OK, here is how Marriage Locator works Below are the marriages from Gainsborough All Saints, and Gainsborogh Holy Trinity, two consecutive parishes, alphabetically, from the Gainsborough Registration District. These marriages are from the 2nd quarter, April to June, 1885. There is only one marriage for Holy Trinity in this Quarter. Gainsborough All Saints 1885 05-Apr Wray John William 1529 1885 07-May Fotheringham John 1529 1885 11-May Evans Robert 1531 1885 14-May Pearson Audas 1531 1885 18-May Hall Edward Thomas 1530 1885 25-May Tinker John Charles 1530 1885 01-Jun Waterlow Arthur 1532 1885 07-Jun Turner Sam William 1532 Gainsborough Holy Trinity 1885 10-Jun Ward Joseph Harrison 1533 If marriage locator had the Gainsborough information, which it hasn't, and you put in 7a 1529, Gainsborough All Saints would be the result. If you go to FreeBMD and do a search for marriages, choose Gainsborough in the district list, and Jun 1885 to Jun 1885 in the date range boxes you will get all the marriages that took place in the June quarter of 1885 in the Gainsborough registration district. The page number is shown after each marriage above. You can see that Gainsborough All Saints has page numbers 1529 to 1532 and the Gainsborough Holy Trinity marriage has page number 1533. Each parish will begin with an odd number and as there is only one marriage for Gainsborough HT in this quarter page number 1534 will not be used at all. I have not included the names of the brides above. They will of course appear on the same page as their grooms, making four names for each page. There will of course be only two names on page 1533 as Holy Trinity only has one marriage in this quarter. It is possible to extract the entries on FreeBMD into a spreadsheet and sort on the page numbers. This is useful if you know which numbers belong to some of the churches and want to find out which numbers the churches that have not been transcribed will have. Parishes are numbered alphabetically, and Blyton has one marriage in the June quarter of 1885, Herbert Dibble, whose page number is 1523. If there are any marriages in Blyborough parish, which is the first parish but not transcribed, alphabetically, in this RD, it will be on page number 1522. In order to get the data for Marriage locator, the above procedure has to be followed for each parish, and for each quarter, a long job. The first and last marriage in each quarter is noted; these are called "cardinal points" and show which page number(s) is/are appropriate to that parish in that quarter. The last alphabetical parish in the Gainsborough RD (not yet transcribed) is Willoughton. If the page numbers for Willoughton for the June 1885 quarter were known, it would then become clear which numbers apply to the registrar attended and register office marriages, that is, the marriage that took place in non-conformist churches and the Gainsborough Register Office. These always come at the end of the number sequence. I hope that is clear. The little chart I have done at the top will probably be all over the place when this gets onto the list as I can only use plain text - apologies for that.
