I'm not sure how but I do have 4th Aug 1852 as the marriage date. where I saw that, or who gave it to me I'm not sure. I have tried the Marriage Locator site for many Lincolnshire marriages where I haven't seen the entry on film or received it from the GRO but for many I get a message like below. GRO Index: 1852 quarter 3, volume 7a, page 1029: Sorry, we cannot locate the church for this marriage. The entry is located between entries for Hilbaldstow (RD: Glanford Brigg) and Gainsborough All Saints (RD: Gainsborough). I can never work out how a entry is between to different Registration districts. Can anyone tell me where this marriage took place and will I find it on the Lincstothepast site. The answer from Phil, and the one from Patricia, emphasise just how important it is to provide full and precise details when posting a query. Phil and Patricia assume Chris means the marriage of Mary WOODLIFF (no 'e')and William Blackburn GRASSBY which was in Louth registraion district but with a volume/page number reference of 7a 913. I assumed that Chris meant the marriage of Elisha GRASBY (one 's') and Rebecca Woodliffe. The GRO Index gives no proof that these two people married each other - they are merely on the same page in the GRO Index in September quarter 1852, Glanford Brigg registration district, with a volume/page number reference of 7a 1029. However in the 1861 census there's a Robert Mumby born 1832 with wife Ann and two children, the eldest aged 7, living in Barnetby le Wold, so they are probably the other couple from the Glanford Brigg page. Robert says he was born Barnetby and Ann says born Elsham, so they *might* have been married in either of those villages. (Added just prior to submitting message: Finally found Elisha and Rebecca Grassby in the 1871 census. Living in Elsham - where Elisha says he was born.) The wonderful Lincolnshire 1837+ Marriage Indexes http://mi.lincolnshiremarriages.org.uk/ currently only list marriages for those two villages for 1837-1850. (See Glanford Brigg introduction.) Patience may bring its own reward when further years are added. Otherwise Chris will have to assume that the marriage took place in either the district Register Office or in a non-conformist church/chapel. In which case the only way to find out where the couple married is to order the marriage certificate from the GRO. One very important thing to note is that post 1837 marriages are not at present on the Lincs to the Past website, and I understand that (certainly at the moment) they are unlikely to be. And if you look on North Lincolnshire council online BMD index you will see that they did indeed marry each other in 1852 http://www.northlincs.gov.uk/AF/an/default.aspx/RenderForm/?F.Name=Qp4DtkaVADP The reference is RO could mean either Registry Office or non conformist i.e. Chapel, using information I have from known places of marriage.
