Hello Barbara I found Charles and Sarah Ann on two or three census returns, on the 1881 the name is listed as HOULTBY and they are living at 23 Spencer Street Lincoln, and Rose is listed with them but the name rose seems to have been overwritten with the name Becky, so I don't know what was going on there. It is clearly the same girl as her birth place is listed as St Michael's on the Mount. Charles was born around 1848 in the village of Fiskerton (which is also somewhere where my relatives hailed from) it's just outside Lincoln. He appears living in Fiskerton with Sarah Ann in the 1911 census as a farmer saying that they had been married for 36 years and had 7 children all of whom are given as still being alive. 4 grown up children are living at home with them in 1911. In 1881 Charles's mother a widow Charlotte is living with them giving her aged as 59 and her birth place as Grantham. In 1871 the name is also given as Houltby and Charles is listed in the home of his elder brother John at2 Ashleys Court st Paul's Lane Lincoln, and Charles and Sarah Ann's eldest daughter Clara is listed as being born in St Pauls. Charles's marriage is also listed under the name Haultby in the Mar Qtr of 1874 in Lincoln and his brides name is given as Sarah Ann Hammonds. Sarah Ann is listed as being born about 1855 in Heighington Lincolnshire. I found Sarah in the 1871 census working as a housemaid in the parsonage of the Revd Barrett at Longworth Gate in ST Peter in the East in Lincoln although only the children of the Revd are at home with the servants inc a governess, so presumably the parents are off doing good works somewhere else. In 1861 Sarah is listed at home with her two brothers, John and Christopher and her parents Phillip (born Heighington) and Elizabeth (born St Botolphs Lincoln) I also found chares in 1861 name listed as OUTBY then a servant in Reepham and in 1851 the 3rd of 4 sons of Joshua and Charlotte the family name listed as HOLTBY living in the village of Fiskerton Joshua a farm labourer who gives his place of birth as Nettleham (they are living next door to the sister of my ggg grandfather Mary Matthews nee Raby, who was a nurse and I believe a midwife and she may well have delivered her neighbours children). Hope this helps and If I can be of any further help please let me know regards Elaine Westaway Hampshire UK ________________________________ From: Patricia McCrory <patriciamccrory@yahoo.co.uk> To: "eng-lincsgen@rootsweb.com" <eng-lincsgen@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, 16 December 2011, 11:16 Subject: Re: [LIN] Rose Mary Houtby Hello Barbara The updated section of the familysearch.org have a Rosa Mary Houtby baptism for 27th January 1878 at St Michael on the Mount, Lincoln.
