Wikipedia does not mention being moved to the U.S., saying only that it was demolished in the mid20th century "however the building's Grade II listed 1905 or 1909 Baroque-style entrance, with sculpted foxes set on gateway pillars, remains."[7][8] There are a couple of nice pics at http://www.lostheritage.org.uk/houses/lh_lincolnshire_girsbymanor_info_galle ry.html Diana Robinson -----Original Message----- From: Joan Van Daalen [mailto:jvandaal@sympatico.ca] Sent: Sunday, October 22, 2017 11:24 AM To: Lincs List <eng-lincsgen@rootsweb.com> Subject: [LIN] GIRSBY MANOR This is slightly off-topic no doubt, but I don't know where to start my search. Girsby Manor in Lincolnshire was demolished in the 1950/1960's. The gateway remains in place, but It is said that the stones of the great house itself were taken to the United States and re-assembled there. I have been unable to uncover any information on this. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where I can look? Joan Van Daalen

    3. All I've been able to positively find is that demolition took place in 1950, though I confess that I haven't checked every hit on google! There's an article in the Hull Daily Mail, dated 28 April 1950, about it. Article available either via the British Newspaper Archive or Findmypast. Lincstothepast do have some records but looking at the dates I don't think they'll be of any help. Perhaps a letter/email to the current local newspapers asking them to publish your query might stir the memories of the local people. http://www.louthleader.co.uk/ http://www.marketrasenmail.co.uk/ Pam Proud to be a member of Lincolnshire Family History Society http://www.lincolnshirefhs.org.uk/ On 22 October 2017 at 16:24, Joan Van Daalen <jvandaal@sympatico.ca> wrote: > This is slightly off-topic no doubt, but I don't know where to start my > search. > > > > Girsby Manor in Lincolnshire was demolished in the 1950/1960's. 3. Hi Janice, Found it, I searched for inquest, first in the week of the death and didn't find anything and then in the week after. SUDBROOK An inquest was held last Saturday before H Beaumont, Esq, deputy coroner, at Sudbrook, on the body of Elizabeth Gadsby, aged eighty tow, whose death occurred the previous day. The deceased lived with her brother, an old man of eighty, and they were both in receipt of parish relief. It appears she had been in a depressed state for some weeks, and on the previous day it was found that she had hung herself in a bedroom. Verdict, temporary insanity. 29 July 1876 Grantham Journal P. 4 Judith Armstrong Australia -----Original Message----- From: ENG-LINCSGEN [mailto:eng-lincsgen-bounces+robjud=westnet.com.au@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Nivard Ovington Sent: Wednesday, 27 September 2017 5:54 PM To: eng-lincsgen@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [LIN] Coroner's inquest 1876 Elizabeth GADSBY Hi Janice As I just posted I have had a look in the available newspapers but haven't found anything as yet but far from all papers are online as yet Do you have the name of the coroner as I have found searching for them to be quite useful with inquests Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 27-Sep-17 3:49 AM, Morris and Weston family wrote: > Could anyone tell me whether the Coroner’s inquest records for Elizabeth GADSBY of Sudbrook, Ancaster might have survived?
