There was a member of the SHARP family one year ahead of me at the Grammar School in Bourne in the late 60s/early 70s and my great aunt Dora LUESBY married William SHARP. If I remember great uncle Bill was owner or part owner of the Stamford Egg Company which he probably inherited from his father because in the 1911 Census William SHARP, middle name Traquair and aged 3, was living with his parents in The Austerby, Bourne - which is probably the house I remember from my youth. LRSM = Lincoln, Rutland and Stamford Mercury Full details from the newspaper are given below; I have no further information. LRSM 2 May 1856 Lincoln City Petty Sessions 26 April John ALLEN, cab-driver, was charged with neglecting to pay £1. 6s. due to Elizabeth WARD on an order in illegitimacy. The defendant admitted that he had a wife and seven children who were starving, as he only earned 10s. weekly and what he could pick up: that the child for which the pay was due was the second illegitimate child the complainant had had by him. Police-officer LILBURN said that the previous night the defendants master had offered to advance the money, but the defendant declined to accept the loan, as he said he should not be able to repay it. He also stated that his household goods would not fetch, if sold, £1. 6s. Committed for a month. LRSM 9 May 1856 Boston Petty Sessions 7 May George HORN, of Boston, rat-catcher, was committed to Spalding gaol for one month for disobeying an order in bastardy. Sleaford Petty Sessions 5 May Saml. BETTS, of Frieston, near Caythorpe, was charged by Sarah PASK, of Caythorpe, with being the father of her illegitimate child. It appearing in evidence that Pask having had two children previously, an order was made for payment of 1s. per week only. Spilsby Petty Sessions 5 May Moses WINN was charged with being the putative father of the illegitimate child of Harriet MASON, of Miningsby, and ordered to pay 1s. 6d. per week and expenses. Market Rasen Petty Sessions 5 May Jane VICKERS, of Kirkby cum Osgodby, singlewoman, obtained an order upon Mr. John HARGRAVE, late of the same place, butcher, for the payment of 1s. 6d. per week towards the maintenance of her illegitimate child. I've been particularly interested in the TOWEL mentioned in the "Lincsgen bastardy" thread which has been running over the past few days as Arthur TOWEL, alias Arthur LUCAN who played the character Old Mother Riley was born in the house where we live in Sibsey near Boston. I've collected various Birth & Marriage certificates as well as down-loaded census records. If anyone is researching Arthur's family they're most welcome to any of the information I've collected. According to census records Tom TOWEL ( Arthur's father ) was born at Waddingham about 7 miles from North Kelsey where the TOWEL in the previous thread was living. I couldn't help but wonder if there is a family connection. Indecently, according to 1891 census Anne aged 8 & George 7 TOWEL ( daughter & son of Tom & Lucy ) were born at South Kelsey. Arthur Lucan didn't quite make it to the stage at the Tivoli. My friend's wife was 'tea lady' at the Tivoli. She took Arthur Lucan a cup of tea before he went on stage but he did not need it as he had died in his dressing room. Bob.
Dear Margaret The earliest of SHARP(E)s I have so far are Robert SHARP born 1737 who married Mary HOLDEN at West Ashby 8 April 1760. They had a large family in West Ashby and it goes on from there. My direct line came from West Keal and later Spilsby. Connections could be way back, I know, but I haven't spent much time on family history lately; just kept up with some lists. Mine are really without an E but my grandfather's birth certificate has the E, incorrectly, on his name. The name has died out with my branch now due to more recent children all being girls, although the earlier large families consisted almost entirely of boys. Let's drop this software issue and get back to your family history questions. Lou (list admin.)
This method is really for entering numerals into a cell as text and automatically moves the contents to the left of the cell - the text/numbers or whatever can be centred and it can also be sorted without interfering with normal sorting rules (I tested it before offering as a possible solution). The advantage of this method is that it can applied to a single cell or to a range of cells only and is not applied to the whole spreadsheet when it may be advantageous to retain auto text functionality. Ann It would help if you let us know which version of Excel you have I used to have an old Excel. I can't remember which version it was possibly 2003. In this version there is a item on the toolbar called 'autotext' this automatically corrects any text you in put. I think this is what is happening in your case. You can check the auto text list and delete those you don't want auto correcting. I now have Excel 2010 and have this auto text. Mind you I do miss it at times as I used to just put my initials on and this changes to my full name. Maybe I still have it so will check when I get home Victor Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless device -----Original Message----- From: "Anne Cole" <duncalf@one-name.org> Sender: eng-lincsgen-bounces@rootsweb.com Date: Sat, 24 Mar 2012 12:25:51 To: <eng-lincsgen@rootsweb.com> Reply-To: eng-lincsgen@rootsweb.com Subject: [LIN] Problem Can someone please help me? Lynda, like you I am unable to get any images for Mavis Enderby on Lincs to the Past. Both the registers and the BTs will have been checked for the Bap/Bur index which is where the NBI entry has been sourced. Family Search will be from the BTs only. Sometimes the BT does not agree with the register, but I would have thought that if there was a difference this would have been noted in the index, or at least in the "Extra" (more information available) column but there is no such indication. Hi Lynda. It appears that the Mavis Enderby registers haven't been uploaded onto the Lincs To The Past wesite yet. However, according to the Bolingbroke Deanery cd issued by LFHS, he was buried 23rd February 1786 age 69. Mick
Dear Margaret and Jan I was interested in your thread about the SHARP family in the Stamford etc. areas. There was also another SHARP, if I recall correctly, who worked for a now-defunct company called Nursery Supplies in Bourne. I need to ask my mother to confirm this. I hope this is of some help to you. Dear Margaret Thought I'd drop you a line re SHARPE. I had SHARP(E) ancestors in the Spilsby area who had big families in the 19th century. I have no record of any of them living in Castle Blytham but some of the brothers could have moved there. My mother's maiden name was SHARP.
