    1. [LIN] A most inteeresting and helpful map site
    2. Margaret Taylor
    3. The Toronto Family History Soc. publish a weekly bulletin of most interesting and helpful hints and small articles. This one I though might be of interest to you all. ( Especially newbies who live far away from the UK and who may be not too familiar with the areas) Were You Aware . Parish Maps for England Alan Billing writes: "Bulletin readers may be interested in the useful maps of English parishes at http://maps.familysearch.org/ , based upon parishes of 1851 (and so including some "new" Victorian parishes split off from an ancient parish). The viewer is first shown a county map of England. There is a search window in which to enter a name (e.g. Southgate); it then lets you choose from a list of possible choices (unless it is unique). In this case, there are three entries, and the one I want is Southgate, Middlesex. It then displays a plan view of the parish of Southgate, and additional parishes, overlaying a Google map or satellite image if desired. A panel lets you look at "Info" (basic parish information such as date range of parish records), "Jurisdictions" (the relevant jurisdictions within which it falls including county, civil registration district, probate court, diocese, poor law union) and "Options" (see below). Using the map overlay, it is quite easy to determine if an existing road is within Southgate, or an adjacent parish (all named); and where an address is relative to the adjacent parish churches (if you have their addresses). "Options" can give you a list of selectable adjacent parishes, and also will list the name and distance to all adjacent parishes within a specified radius. The latter is very handy when seeking a possible out-of-parish marriage since most such are within about 10 miles of the home parish. It is possible to print at least some of the information and maps, though I've not explored that much yet." Margaret Taylor ( Port Perry.Ont)

    3. Hello Bill Thanks for your query. I wasn't actually asking for help at this point - just suggesting an idea for a theme arising from my own frustration but, since you ask, I'm glad to answer. I want to identify the mother of Elizabeth Jane BEET (or could be just Elizabeth, she may have added Jane later) born, we are told, 10 March 1849 at Great Gonerby, Lincs. She has been presumed to be the child of William Beet, born 1822 at Grt Gonerby and his second wife Elizabeth, nee Watson, born 1831/32 at Marston., Lincs. William and Elizabeth were married in October 1850 at Grt Gonerby and William is recorded as a widower. However I now find, on another tree, that William's first wife was Susannah, they married in 1844, had a child Louisa who was born and died in January 1845 and Susannah died in August 1849. That was five months after baby Elizabeth's birth. So was baby Elizabeth Susannah's child? Or second wife Elizabeth's child? All such common names and it's hard to tell. Whichever answer I come up with is going to raise several other questions as well. But I'll be glad to hear any ideas you have. 3. William's two marriages can be found in the Grantham spreadsheet. http://mi.lincolnshiremarriages.org.uk/ For a comparatively small sum of money, Lincolnshire Archives will be able to send you copies of the entries in the parish register. http://www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/residents/archives/ Burial of Susan (sic), William's first wife. http://www.lincstothepast.com/Records/RecordDisplayTranscript.aspx?oid=539800&iid=345027 Burial of baby Louisa in 1845. http://www.lincstothepast.com/Records/RecordDisplayTranscript.aspx?oid=723617&iid=344993 Lincs Archives can also send you unwatermarked copies of these entries. You could also ask them if them could look in the baptism register for Great Gonerby (sadly not online at the moment) for a baptism for Elizabeth between March and August 1849, and if they find an entry to send a copy. That would be cheaper than sending for the birth certificate. (Elizabeth's birth registered March quarter 1849, Grantham registration district.) Bev is properly subscribed and the mails are going out.  Perhaps I should post something stupid, because that seems to get a reaction from people and mail sent to the list.  But today's not the day. 3. The list messages are all archived and can be either 'browsed', i.e. looked at by month, or 'searched' i.e. searched for a particular name/place/subject. http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/ENG/ENG-LINCSGEN.html All Rootsweb mailing list have a similar page, and ideally you should bookmark the pages, so then it's easy to check if you think that list messages aren't getting through to you by simply going to 'browse' and checking the last messages in the list. Updating of the lists is almost immediately when a message has been posted because the last messages showing in the archives at the moment are your original query with replies from Richard and Graham. (And by the time anyone reads this message it should also be there. <g>) Pam Proud to be a member of Lincolnshire Family History Society http://www.lincolnshirefhs.org.uk/ On 13/06/2012 05:09, J & B.H. 3. Hi Elizabeth To me it looks like Francesscus Yorke (filius Richards Yorke inserted) Bapt: fuit quarto Dis January 1665 with my handy translator: Francis York son of Richard Yorke baptised 4th of January 1665 'fuit' translates in isolation as 'have' and 'dis' as 'possessing worth' but together probably give the possessive form of 'of' or 'belonging' Someone with more experience in the basics of Latin grammar can probably explain it - my experience is restricted to what is found in registers. They had 6 children all baptized Anwick between 1703 and 1714 ( a baby born every other year). Jane was buried in Anwick 5 Dec 1719. William later married Ann FRANCIS (baptized Quadring 28 Sep 1700) in Anwick 2 Feb 1722/23. There were 3 more children all baptized Anwick from 1723 to 1729. William was buried in Anwick 20 May 1731. My question is when, where and if William and Jane ever married?

    3. Please could anyone help me with a baptism in Fiskerton? You can find it through Lincs to the Past Fiskerton – the General Register 1664 - 1800 -- marriages, baptisms and burials 1664 - image 4 towards the bottom on the left hand side of the page Francis, son of Richard YORKE bapt two words I cannot understand 4 January 1665 Also, if anyone has a Lincs marriage index (and if it goes back that far) could anyone find a marriage for Richard YORK(E) around 1659 (first child born 1560) to a Mary, and another marriage for Richard YORK(E) around 1671 (first child born in Feb 1671) to an Elizabeth. The same Richard married yet again in 1692 but then he died in 1693. At least seven of his ten children died in childhood (not all in infancy). Cholera? Typhoid? I guess we will never know as so many little ones died in those years and there were no notes in the registers. Isn’t the Lincs to the Past site wonderful once you have figured out how to use it? Thank you for any help Elizabeth Pugh Whitehorse, Yukon Canada
