Try this. Hi, Missing Lincs, I don't know about you, but from time to time I get stuck in my family history work. I usually set it aside for a while and hope inspiration will spark an idea, or that desperation will help me make the commitment to spend a couple of hours looking through a parish register. So, over the next week I will toss out some ideas to help inspire you in your searches. Others are welcome to contribute their ideas. After all, we want to help. Idea #1. Pick another family. Is there a name you've run across that doesn't look like a relative? Perhaps a photographer, or the greengrocer who lived next door to your granny? Maybe a boarder in their home? Do a little research on that person and their family. Post your findings to this list. You may help someone else, they may help you in return. Idea #2. Help FreeBMD or FreeCEN. Can't type? Then help "proof" someone's transcription. Even an hour a week of your precious time is helpful to so many. Idea #3. Find all the burials in Glentham parish for 1806 and post all of them to the list. None of your names there? Wait. Someone will duplicate your feat for another parish and you may strike it rich. This is a short and easy task. Idea #4. Go to the Roll of Honour site (http://www.roll-of-honour.com/Lincolnshire/) and find a parish where not all the names have been found. Alas, war memorials suffer from inaccurate data like everything else. So who is that man known only by an initial and a surname? Can you find him in the census? Can you find his baptism? By the way, I think military records are much underused. But I'd love to see you post your findings to this list. More to come. Lou (list admin.)

Thank you Bill.   I had been working from a printout that someone sent me.  I had taken Jerry and adopted child to be a male.  Since yours I have had the scan sent to me and it is clearly Gerty and female.   Not that I am much further forward but an error has been corrected.   Thanks again Mike ________________________________      There is a GIRL by the name of Gerty L CUNDELL Adopted Child age 4 Spalding Lins on the IGI Bill Stratton Scribe FreeREG Lins. Is anyone able to tell me anything about Gerry, his birthplace is supposed to be Spalding. The closest I can find is Gerald Smith CUNDELL, Mar Q 1886, Cosford 4a 599 (699). Is anyone able to tell me anything further about him please? Or find him in later censuses? Thank you Mike

    3. Bourne burial PRs are on the Lincs to the Past website. If you've not used it before do read the help section first. This is the burial register 1813- 1843. http://www.lincstothepast.com/Burials/555622.record?pt=T A word of warning when searching for other Bourne PRs: the results include Thurlby by Bourne and Morton by Bourne, so make sure that you read the 'reference' carefully to save you looking in the wrong register! Blackfriars. His father was called Philip a printer and I am still trying to establish whether its the same philip (wife Susan) - born 1741 who was related to printing family of Rousseau's of London. Philip's mother is given as Margarett, but the philip of Philip and Susan baptised in 1766 was buried at St. Anne's in 1770 and Philip of 1771 may be the next son to come along who would take his father's name. The Margarett may be a baptism error as suggested by Tony, one of the listers who replied to my question on this in 2011. Although this part of the family history is not in the Lincoln area any further help on this (off list) would be gratefully appreciated. For Frank I can confirm that his mother was Annie. Although not a direct relative, I purchased his birth certificate, as he later had a number of children in the Lincoln area with the Rousseau name, to check his link with Charles Philip and Keziah (Woodward). The name of the Frank's father is not given on the certificate only Annie is given as his mother. Also if you check the births and deaths lists around this time there were a number of Rousseau infants born and died in Lincoln and many did not live to the 1911 census. I checked three other names: Ernest Harold born in 1901; Annie born in 1903; Albert born in 1907; The mother of all these and Frank was given as Annie a charwoman (or domestic help). Keziah was listed as being present at the birth of Annie and Ernest Harold. Present at Frank's birth was Mary Ann Barlow. So its likely that Annie had given birth to a number of children but many did not live to adulthood. I think Annie later married a William R Rawlinson around 1914 and had a son Charles again who died as an infant. Any help on the other Rousseau infants (Emily Alice; John Willie; Elisabeth; Albert; Ernest; and Florence who you mentioned) would be appreciated to see if they were from this line or another Rousseau line. I have it that Frank was possibly the only surviving child of Annie. If anyone has any better information on this I will also be glad to hear. I have not traced Frank's children any further as yet. My Grandfather was George, Annie's brother and there was also a Charles, Sarah Jane and Martha further sisters and brother of Annie who had families. Elisabeth Kate and William Albert Annie's other sister and brother died aged 21 and 16 respectively. I hope to do more work on this part of my family line in the future and if I can find Philip Charles' father check any connections with the other Roussaeu's in the UK. Best Wishes Derek

    3. There are times when Ancestry could not organise a night out in a brewery, and this is one of them. The 1901 census does NOT say that Alice is the mother of Frank. It says ONLY that he is the grandson of Kezia. Ancestry have chosen to assume that because Alice's name is immediately above Frank's that she is his mother. She *might* be, but there is nothing on the 1901 census to PROVE that she is. For proof of who is/are Frank's parents you either need to send for his birth cerificate (birth registered June quarter 1898) or see if you can find a baptism record for him. St Martin's (the parish in which Kezia and family are living in 1901) baptism PRs up to 1903 are on Lincs to the Past. (Though he could have been baptised in any other parish, or not baptised as an infant/baby at all.) http://www.lincstothepast.com/Baptisms/630463.record?pt=T Pam Proud to be a member of Lincolnshire Family History Society http://www.lincolnshirefhs.org.uk/ On 18/06/2012 00:16, Michael Wells wrote: > >From the 1901 census > 1901 England Census > about Frank Rousseau > Name:Frank Rousseau > Age:2 > Estimated Birth Year:abt 1899 > Relation:Grandson > Mother's name:Alice Rousseau > Gender:Male > Where born:Bassingham, Lincolnshire, England > Civil parish:St Martin > Ecclesiastical parish:St Martin > County/Island:Lincolnshire > Country:England > Street Address: > > Occupation: > > Condition as to marriage: > > Education: > > Employment status:View image > Registration district:Lincoln > Sub-registration district:Lincoln Home > ED, institution, or vessel:32 > Neighbors:View others on page > Household schedule number:197 > Piece:3062 > Folio:171 > Page Number:28 > Household Members:Name > Age > Kezia Rousseau 60 > Annie Rousseau 27 > Chas Rousseau 24 > Alice Rousseau 22 > Frank Rousseau 2 > Alice Goodings 10 View > Original > Record > View original image > View blank form > Source Citation: Class: RG13; Piece: 3062; Folio: 171; Page: 28. > Source Information: > Ancestry.com. 1901 England Census [database on-line].
