Thank you Pam , I have to go away tomorrow for a week or so, but will try to see the web site you mentioned before I go . I am doing a One Name Study on QUICKFALL so I desend from Frances Quickfall married to Westoby, my father was Tom Quickfall born in Branston Moor, Lincolnshire. But from what you have been telling me I have to agree that Shearwood is not my line. Apologies --- I should have said in my earlier posting that John Brewer was the son of Jacob & Elizabeth BRUER/BREWER & Jacob (born 1692) the son of another Jacob (wife's name unknown). I just got carried away at seeing some names I recognised!! Janet
How great to find more details of Mary & William, who are my 5x great-grandparents. The correspondence has filled in a few details for me, too. I know very little about the CHARLES side of the family before William but, have the information that David gave you about John & Alice (Mary's parents). I believe Alice was the daughter of Joseph & Alice WRIGHT & John the son of Elizabeth & Jacob BRUER/BREWER. Jacob, in turn being (possibly) the son of Elizabeth & Jacob Bruer/Brewer (born around 1692 in Tealby, Lincs.) Mary (Brewer) & William Charles's daughter Mary married Richard Richardson & my connection is via their daughter Charlotte who married John Woodcock. Another daughter, Ann became a Ratcliff &, I think, she is the link to David's tree. LRSM = Lincoln, Rutland & Stamford Mercury Full details from the newspaper are given below; I have no further information. LRSM 8 August 1856 Spittlegate Petty Sessions 1 August Mary SHIPMAN, of Foston, applied for an order of affiliation upon Geo. HARRIS, of Goadby. He had previously admitted that it was not altogether his. Ordered to pay 1s. 6d. per week since the birth of the child, with expenses. LRSM 15 August 1856 Sleaford Petty Sessions 11 August Orders were made upon George CLARKE, of Huttoft, on the application of Eliz. Hello Peter, My Ratcliffe's in Lincoln descend down from this couple (my 4*grt grandparents) via a maternal ine. If I am on the right track with Mary Brewer's line I believe she was bapt. 12 July 1756 @ Bardney, dau. of John Brewer & Alice Wright. At this stage I am no further on with John Brewer, but have Alice Wright bapt. 6 August 1727, again in Bardney, dau. of Joseph & Alice Wright. I also have a note that John Brewer and Alice Wright were married in Lincoln on 10 June 1747. David Meredith Nottingham > At present I'm having difficulty signing in to Lincs to the Past. Hi Bev, I have that your John Westoby is a brother to my Thomas. John & Frances had 10 children while my Thomas & Sarah had only 6. From the Wills I have for Thomas & Sarah which I told you about in my last e-mail, I'm sure that proves that both Ann & Elizabeth, the wife's of William Hiram Shearwood, were both their daughters. If you go to the following website you will be able to see the Westoby family info provided by Sue Westoby which is very well documented. http://www.winteringham.info/Genealogy/Westoby/westoby.HTM After you have a look at Sue's 27 page account of the Westoby family maybe we can check back with each other. I see she has John's daughters Ann & Elizabeth both born in 1807 in Barrow. Which one of John & Frances's children do you descend from? As a personal note, I noticed that your couple were married at Sutton in Holderness. In William Hiram father's Will he gives one of his children land from Sutton so maybe the Quickfall & Shearwood family had a connection to Sutton. If Frances was born in Nettleton why did they go to Sutton to get married? Sorry to come back so quick but according to FamilySearch.org the fathers first name is ''John'' (?) Thanks Peter ----- Original Message ----- From: Peter Atkinson To: eng-lincsgen@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, July 16, 2012 3:17 PM Subject: William Charles and Mary Brewer Hello list, At present I'm having difficulty signing in to Lincs to the Past. However until it is sorted I would like some help to decipher some of the marriage register for Lincoln St.Martin (1754-1812) in respect of William Charles and Mary Brewer. http://www.lincstothepast.com/Records/RecordDisplayTranscript.aspx?oid=630445&iid=422325 William Charles in the parish of Snelland. Do you think the vicars name is Willis Crabtree? The name of Mary's father or is it just an initial? The father's name is repeated at the bottom with a cover note regarding (I assume) Mary being under age. I can make out the words ''married with proper'' consent(?) but what comes after that? Thanks for any help. Peter

What is one please? Hello I was just doing a search on the lincstothepast website and I came across an entry for a Guardian Bond for a William LADD in 1728 of Gosberton. Can someone explain what a Guardian Bond is? The reference details copied and pasted are as follows: Reference Name MISC WILLS/O/3898 Name: Ladd, William Place: Gosberton, Lincolnshire Date: 1728 Notes: Not fully completed, but signed. Repository: Lincolnshire Archives [057] Is it some kind of will as I think this relates to the William LADD that was buried in Gosberton in 1728?
