Hi John Have you considered contacting the Isle of axholme FHS? They have lots of booklets of Parish Register transcription, these only cost £2 - £3 each and cover baptisms, marriages and burials for each of the parishes. Epworth is covered from 1539 - 1966 for baptisms, 1547- 1949 for marriages and 1538- 2000 for burials. The society's website is www.axholme-fhs.org.uk. They are avery friendly and helpful group. Kind regards Hilary Sent from my iPad On 1 Aug 2012, at 21:15, John Phillips <denscanis@yahoo.co.uk> wrote: > > > Good morning all > > If anyone is connected to this family, particularly through Richard Varley (b 1717) Cornelius Varley (b 1720) or Scotson Varley (b 1729) sons of Samuel and Douglasia Varley of Epworth, please get in touch. We think Cornelius may have gone to London, but what happened to Richard and Scotson is still a mystery. I am trying to trace a Sarah Varley, b circa 1758, who may be daughter of one of these men. She was a cousin of John Varley the painter and his siblings, as mentioned in her will (as Sarah Woodham,) in 1836, Islington, Middlesex. > > Any pointers, however vague, would be most welcome. > > Many thanks > > John > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ENG-LINCSGEN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
When I require copies of birth or death certificates of members of my family who came from Lincolnshire, I order them from Lincoln Register Office, as they scan the original registers and so the copies that you receive show the informant¹s signature. Also, there is no possibility of a transcription error, which can occur if the same certificate is ordered from the GRO in Southport. However, I have now found two births that were registered in the former registration district of Glanford Brigg during the 1850s. I understand that the registers from this registration district are now held in the North Lincolnshire Register Office in Scunthorpe rather than in Lincoln. Can anyone tell me if the Register Office in Scunthorpe scan the original registers in a similar way to what Lincoln Register Office do? Or do they supply handwritten or typed copies of the original entries? Geoff Giles Leicester, UK
