Hi Barbara. I found these articles in two Tasmanian newspapers referring to Uriah Butters. I thought they may be of interest. Terry, Australia Article- Launceston Examiner Wed 2 Sep. 1846 DIED—In great peace, in the 65th year of his age, Mr. Butters, of Hibaldstome, Lincolnshire, father of the Rev. William Butters of Launceston, and the Rev. Uriah Butters of St. Columb, Cornwall, Wesleyan Ministers. For more than forty years he had been a consistent member of the wesleyan church, and, for the greater part of that time, a valuable and universally esteemed office bearer. Article- Launceston Advertiser Thu 3 Sep. 1846 DEATHS. On the 10th February, in great peace, in the 65th year of his age, Mr. BUTTERS, of Hibaldstowe, Lincolnshire, father of the Rev. William Butters, of Launceston, and the Rev. Uriah Butters, of St. Columb, Cornwall, Wesleyan Ministers. For more than forty years he had been a consistent member of the Wesleyan Church, and for the greater part of that time a valuable and universally esteemed office bearer.
I have received an answer from Rylands Library who say they have no reference in their published lists of Methodist ministers whose details match the information I provided [a death in 1853]. So the mystery of the newspaper report remains. Barbara Tyerman

Thanks for your reply Pat. I do have the article on William Butters that you mentioned. The parents of William 1810 & Uriah 1811 were Virlot Butters & Ann Wilson. William married in 1842 in Hobart, Tasmania. He returned to England and died in 1887 in Lambeth. Virlot Butters was my 3xgt grandfather. I have researched the Butters families for many years so was puzzled when I found the newspaper article which appeared to refer to a Uriah Butters I had not heard of. Barbara >An article in the Lincolnshire chronicle for 7 Jan 1853 gives an account of the sudden death at New Holland on Christmas Day of Uriah Butters, Wesleyan Methodist Minister of Hibaldstow The above Uriah Butters is not the one baptised in 1811 in Hibaldstow. I have full details of his life and he died in Beverley, Yorks in 1899. The odd thing is that the article mentions a brother in law, Mr Beaulah, and a brother William who was a missionary in Australia. These details are true for Uriah Butters 1811-1899<
Re Uriah Butters - I can't help at the moment with baptism and death details but I have an article from the Australian Dictionary of Biography - online edition for the brother William Butters (1810- 1887). it says that he was born in January 1810, probably the son of John Butters of Hibaldstow and his isfe Sarah who had suffered much persecution for her devoted adherence to the Methodists. I will pass your enquiry on to Joyce Harris of Hibaldstow who is one of the present day Chapel members and is actively involved with its history. Lou, Major Thomas Kelsey lived in Southlands House, Morton, Gainsborough. He was married to Ada Marshall, of Marshall's engineering at Gainsborough. He owned Townrows flour mill and the laundry at Morton. There is a photo of Southlands House on flickr. It was demolished in the 70s and a housing estate built there. There is also a grainy photo of him as a Lieutenant dated 1895-1890. There is a family vault in Morton churchyard.
