    3. There should certainly be a death certificate for her, particularly as she was in the workhouse when she died, and there was an inquest. Her death is recorded on the 20th October 1840. The inquest on the CD is from the Stamford Mercury. It also mentions her husband's death as you described. The reports may be very similar as I suspect they were syndicated. 3. Thanks Anne, that has clarified her as 'my' Charlotte Bingley as she was born Charlotte Norton in Lincoln in 1786. I have seen the inquest reported in the Lincolnshire Chronicle, I'm unsure if this may appear elsewhere ? I also have the publications of the Workhouse Minutes in which there is one reference to a Widow Bingley in 1837. Unfortunately Lincolnshire Register Office can not find the entry for her death ? I'm not sure if this is common or not as she died in the workhouse ? Regards, Sam.

    3. She was 53 according to the burial register (published on microfiche). I presume you have the inquest report - it is on the Inquest Vol. 1 CD. I don't have the admissions on my computer and my fiche reader is away in a cupboard at the moment! 3. Hi List, I have recently discovered a Charlotte Bingley who died in October 1840 in the Lincoln Workhouse after choking on a piece of food. I'm not certain it is her as I don't know her age from the document I have. I have found that there are 1839-1843 admissions papers as well as a burial register for the workhouse grounds. I would be grateful if anyone who has access to these records or indexes could provide any more information. I believe Charlotte be my 5 x Gt Grandmother - her husband died 16 years earlier also in Lincoln whilst driving a Coach Box ! Regards, Sam.

    1. [LIN] Bastardy Cases in the Newspaper
    2. Anne Cole
    3. Two weeks' worth here - not finding very much at present LRSM = Lincoln, Rutland and Stamford Mercury Full details from the newspaper are given below; I have no further information. LRSM 1 February 1856 Spilsby Petty Sessions 28 January Thomas PEARL, of Sibsey, who did not answer to the summons, was adjudged in his absence to be the putative father of the illegitimate child of Sarah WAKEFIELD, and ordered to pay 1s. per week and expenses. LRSM 8 February 1856 Spittlegate Petty Sessions 1 February Ann JARVIS, a single woman, applied through Mr. HEALY for an order of affiliation upon Henry HILTON. Mr. MALIM appeared for the defendant. This was the second application, the first having been made at the Borough Bench of Magistrates, who dismissed the case because they considered the paternity was not sufficiently proved. Mr. Healy said the second application had been made not to place one set of Justices against the other, but in order that new and material evidence might be adduced; and another reason why he particularly wished it was in consequence (to use his own words) of a very shameful attempt to bribe one of his witnesses, and to intimidate another, upon the very threshold of justice. He also stated that he had chosen this Bench because it was above any such influence, and that no one would have dared to attempt such a thing on the threshold of this court: also that if it occurred again he should take upon himself the responsibility of making it public. Mr. Malam wished for an explanation to this grave charge, but Mr. Healy said he acquitted him even of the knowledge of it. The Magistrates retired, and upon retaking their seats said that, after a patient hearing of the ably-argued case, they did not consider there was sufficient evidence before them to reverse the decision of the Borough Magistrates, the corroborative evidence not being sufficiently strong. Louth Petty Sessions 1 February Rd. MEDLEY, bricklayer, was charged by Eliza DUESBURY with being the father of her bastard child. Case dismissed, complainant to pay costs. 3. Hi, Missing Lincs,     This month, in honor of Remembrance Day, I have been updating the parish profiles on Rootsweb and Genuki with information on their military history, if I can find some.  In some cases the Royal Flying Corps established a grass airfield in WWI as an emergency or relief landing field in a parish, but nothing much was ever done with it.  So far, I've only gotten parishes starting with A through F finished.  If you know of a special military history for a parish, please let me know.     Also,a reminder.  Some of you get your mail automatically forwarded.  If so, you can't post to the list from that receiving account.  You have to use the one that is subscribed to the list.  Rootsweb/Ancestry does this to limit spamming.  It would be better if you unsubscribed the old address and subscribed the new one.  Also, if you use that "wonderful" feature of "auto-reply" when you go on vacation, your subscription will be "auto-dropped" by Rootsweb/Ancestry.  I'd hate to loose you, but computers are stubborn.  Now, if you have a subscription/unsubscription problem, get me involved.     Now, turn off your computer and wipe down the keyboard with a disinfectant cloth,  Ta ta for now.      Lou (list admin.)
