    3. I don't know whether the following has any bearing on the Joseph Rose discussion but .. In a village in Nottinghamshire, at about the same time, a boy child was christened - no parents were named. Nobody else in the village had that surname. I believe that this child was brought up in the village by a fairly well off family. He was known to have been a life long friend of the son of that family and was eventually an executor of this friend. Approximately 16 years later, in an adjoining village, a very wealthy man left in his Will a large settlement to a young man whom he named and gave his approximate age. The name of the young man was the same as the child that had been baptised. One presumes that this was an acknowledgement of fatherhood although the child did not bear his surname. Some fuel for thought? 1. [LIN] DAVISON family in 1911 in Swineshead
    2. Peter HOLMES
    3. Last weekend I decided to work on the minimal range of papers regarding my DAVISON ancestors and its not been easy! (So many people in the same areas with the same given names at the same time - but are not part of my family units and of course the surname has many variations - the D gets included or the I gets replaced by an E just to name a couple. I have a Frances DAVISON born to John & Alice in Winceby in about 1823-25 but Francis was a very common name with the DAVISONs in the area so its hard to track him in the 1841 census, but being about 19 he could have been working/living away from home. He's returned to his parents in 1851 (Welton le Marsh) but working as a house servant in 1861 in Lincoln I think. (The census reference is RG9/2361 page 24 for St Peter in (what looks like) East something parish, city of Lincoln, upper ward. Can anyone work out where it is? However, in 3rd qtr 1863 I believe he married Anna Maria SHARMAN in Boston RD Vol 4a page 563. In 1871 he and Annie Maria are living in Swineshead with their daughter Alice born about 1866 in Swineshead. By 1911 he has passed away and widow Anna Maria is sharing possibly the same home as above with unmarried 44 y/o Alice - a dressmaker. The street address in both 1871 and 1911 is very difficult to read but someone out there with local knowledge or a local street map (current or contemporary) might clarify what I think is Slenning Lane? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Peter Holmes Western Australia. Skype ; p.g.holmes [HOLMES (Witham on the Hill, Manthorpe, Spalding, Pinchbeck, Donington then Leicestershire)]. [RYLOTT & WITHERINGTON (Anwick, N & S Kyme, N & S Rauceby, Surfleet, Gosberton Clough etc., Spalding)] [RYLOTT (Ontario Canada & some in New York & Florida USA)] Villages are in Lincolnshire unless stated. 3. I couldn't find it either, which is why I wondered if it might help to get the reference for the register in which it appears, in case the name has been mistranscribed or omitted. If you know the reference for the register, then you could try doing a search around the right date on a common forename (eg John) in that piece, and then scroll through and see if you find the event in that register. However, if you don't have a subscription this could prove expensive. I was under the impression that all registers from RG4 had been digitised at The Genealogist/BMDregisters, but maybe some have been missed. 3. It seems to be Stenning Lane. A tip for 1911 if you can't read your ancestor's writing, is to click on 'list' in the enumerators book images' which on FMP are at the top of the image page. The enumerator's writing of the address will possibly be a little more legible. <g> Pam Proud to be a member of Lincolnshire Family History Society http://www.lincolnshirefhs.org.uk/ On 11/01/2012 14:26, Peter HOLMES wrote: > Last weekend I decided to work on the minimal range of papers regarding my > DAVISON ancestors and its not been easy! 3. From the FamilySearch catalogue: Microfilm of original records at the London Public Record Office, London. Baptisms, 1707-1809, 1785-1796, 1811-1817, 1820-1836. RG-4 series nos. 4061a, 2454, 25a, 2455, and 2456 It may help to work out from the online TNA catalogue which of these registers the baptism would have appeared in, and then you should be able to find a digitised image of the entry in the non-conformist records at The Genealogist. The original entry may give parents not included for some reason at FamilySearch, or give a clue as to why parents were omitted. 3. My GGgrandad, Jonas WHITHAM, married his second wife Mary Ann CURTIS on 19 May 1857 in Hull. On 17 Aug 1862 he married, Sarah BATE nee CARTWRIGHT at Anwick, Lincolnshire under the name Jonas Kitson DENNISON (which is an amalgamation of his mother & first wife's names). On the 1861 census he was at his home town of Wakefield, Sarah was in Anwick but can find no trace of Mary Ann WHITHAM. Can Anyone help?
