    3. Well done Shirley Always good to hear of success stories Its those kind of unexpected finds that do raise the pulse isn't it :-) In the recent release of the London electoral rolls I have found many hits for my extended family but none so nice to find as my mother and father in their first home Like you I knew where they would be already but its great to find all the same Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) Hi, I usually lurk on here now and again as I have family from Lincs as well as Notts, the names being Elston and Revill in Claypole mostly. I saw the post about free newspaper articles and despite the fact that I have a card which gives me access to Nottingham library as a visitor and can get access to newspapers on line (I live in Scotland but was born in Nottingham) I decided to go and look at the free newspapers mentioned in the posting and I was over the moon to find my dad! 6th March 1944 he was reported in the Nottm Evening Post as being wounded in Italy. I did know this of course as he was a disabled service man but I found this purely by accident on this site and was so excited I had to tell you all! Bye for now.........Shirley

    3. Hi Alden. >From the FreeReg website. John TAGG of Gedney married Susannah RINGROSE in Long Sutton on July 20th 1813. In the Gedney parish records there is a baptism on October 17th 1814 for Thomas TAGG son of John and Susannah. I think this is worth following up as Gedney is the next village to Long Sutton. 3. There is also a family over in Holbeach that I'm fairly certain belongs with this group, but not being able to find John Tagg baptised 1745's siblings, the jury must remain out. They are: John Tagg married Esther Ward 25 Jan 1793 Holbeach Ages and dates below come from the PRS Children: Sarah born 1793 Bap 29 Jun 1809 age 16 Holbeach buried 10 Aug 1810 Esther born 9 Jul 1795 bap 11 Jul 1818 Holbeach Mary born about 1794 bap 8 Jan 1819 age 22 Gedney Up to this point father's occupation is labourer. For all entries residence is shown as Holbeach Fen End. From this point on John Tagg is a farmer, so I would assume a landowner or at least a tennant farmer William born 9 Mar 1798 bap 5 Feb 1819 Holbeach Benjamin born 12 Aug 1799 bap 5 Feb 1819 Holbeach Abraham born 5 Feb 1804 bap 5 Feb 1819 Holbeach Possibly Ann born about 1803 buried 5 Jan 1819 Esther was buried 13 May 1834 at age 60 in Holbeach John was buried 5 Feb 1819 at Holbeach aged 54 Those wonky baptism dates had me puzzled but I think I know what they were. I believe your people were Quakers. The Willmots show up on the Non-Conformist registers. I think there were Taggs, too. I discovered it quite by accident. There is an immigration record to the US for George Tagg who I am about positive was the son of John and Elizabeth Willmot Tagg: Name Arrival Date Age Gender Port of Departure Place of Origin Ship Susanna Tagg 29 Dec 1831 43 F (Female) England Ship Algonquin George Tagg 29 Dec 1831 42 M (Male) England Ship Algonquin Mary Tagg 29 Dec 1831 11 F (Female) England Ship Algonquin Tagg 29 Dec 1831 10 M (Male) England Ship Algonquin Willmot Tagg 29 Dec 1831 7 M (Male) England Ship Algonquin Eliza Tagg 29 Dec 1831 5 F (Female) England Ship Algonquin George Tagg 29 Dec 1831 2 M (Male) England Ship Algonquin Note son WILLMOT Tagg! How likely is it he's NOT Elizabeth's grandson? George became a VERY prosperous merchant in Philadelphia and there is John Tagg who naturalized in Philadelphia in 1839 (declared intent in 1837). the entry above for TAGG age 10 was a John M. born about 1820. He was not with the family but a few lines down. He matches John and susan Ringrose Tagg's son and I do not find a baptism for a son John to George and Susannah although that really doesn't mean anything and he could be their son, just missed on the manifest at first. It turns out George's wife was Susanna Mallinson. She was born 21 Jul 1787 Pontefract Yorks, daughter of John and Mary Mallinson. her birth entry shows as birth place: Yorkshire Quarterly Meeting, York, England. The Quakers call their churches Meetings. I suspect all those wonky dates are because they would have resisted having their children baptised and register at the C of E. I would go looking for the Quaker records from the Meeting. The Quakers are like the Goliath of church record keeping. They followed every little movement of the congregation's life. It may be there was a falling out at the time of those baptisms where they either left or were ejected from the Meeting and elected to have their children baptised. Or maybe they just became compliant with the law so they didn't have trouble. I do wonder if John and Elizabeth's children weren't baptised late or later as well. I have a sneaking suspicion the John married to Esther Ward was the son of Abraham and Mary Unknown Tagg or that Abraham and a second wife, or Abraham's nephew. I feel comfortable that this George is John and Elizabeth's son. Willmot ends up in Michigan. Happy time travels! Susan

    3. This message will come in two parts as it is too long. I agree with Mick and found some interesting things to go along with it. I'm fairly certain Susannah Ringrose Tagg is the Susannah Tag who was buried Doddington St Mary, Cambridgeshire in 1836 at age 46. She fits in every way and there are strong ties in the information I found to Doddington. On the marriage entry for John Tagg and Susannah Ringrose, the witnesses are given as Abraham Tagg, Catherine Tagg, Sarah Read and James Read, and William Cooper. I find no familial ties with William Cooper, but Sarah was sister to Abraham and Catherine, born Sarah Tagg and married James Read in Doddington in 1803, and the three were siblings to John. A Rebecca Tagg married Jacon Burch in Doddington in 1825. I can't verify it's the same Rebecca but the youngest of John and Elizabeth Willmot Tagg's children was Rebecca bap 5 Mar 1797 Silk Willoughby Lincs. Let me lay out what I think is your line, then I will tell you the exciting thing I found and why you probably can't find them. I will send you my working notes with all the references in it, but most of this has come from the new Family Search site, FreeReg, and Ancestry. I promise we'll get them to Lincs, Lou! Abraham TAGGE marreid Mary SHOER 1 Jun 1703, South Wingfield Derbyshire. Their parents are not known at this time. Abraham, Catherine and Sarah were witnesses to John's marriage as we already discussed. Abraham is on the 1841 census in Blackwell, Derbyshire with first wife Elizabeth Wateral and on the 1851 census in Sutton St Marywith his second wife Ann Cole (they were married in Doddington by the way!) as is brother William. Sister Elizabeth is an annuitant in Easton Northamptonshire in 1851. These folks traveled and they aren't all done yet! there are burial records for John 15 Jan 1812 age 71 and Elizabeth wife of John 22 Dec 1808 (whether this is Elizabeth Willmot Tagg I can't be certain as there is no age) both in Holbeach John Tagg married Susannah Ringrose 20 Jul 1813 Long Sutton Lincs. 3. Guy, If you look in the newspaper by location part of the website you will find several newspapers that cover Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire. I often articles for Lincolnshire in Nottinghamshire newspapers, and also Hull Packet, but Lincolnshire itself is not best served by this resource. Better resource is the subscription site British Newspapers which is free to search. http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/ John > From: guy@tahq.demon.co.uk > To: eng-lincsgen@rootsweb.com > Date: Sat, 14 Jan 2012 15:30:45 +0000 > Subject: Re: [LIN] Newspaper archive access online via UK libraries > > I have been able to access the Gale newspaper archive via Hampshire > libraries on-line service by entering my library card number at log on. > > However my research is mainly LINCOLNSHIRE (for my wife's tree) and East > Anglia (my tree) and I can find no newspapers listed for either area. 3. I have been researching the Gasks for some time. Your Sarah who married John Walker in 1786 in Friskney was baptised on 27 July 1757 in Wrangle. Her parents were William Gask and Sarah Buffon /Buffham(variable). William Gask the son of another William died in 1805 in Friskney and his will shows bequests to his Walker grandchildren. Sarah's siblings were Sarah bp 1755 Elizabeth bp 1756 William 1759 Mary 1765 Her parents were married at Wrangle on 23/5/1753. Her mother was born c1730 and buried about Dec 1774 Her grandfather William Gask was prob baptised on 15/11/1728 at Leake. Parents William and Sarah Gask, nee Dickinson. Her grandfather was the brother of my ancestor George. I have quite a lot of information on the family and an ancestry tree if you would like access. 3. Thank you so much Anne, this explains it really well. I had no idea there were such complex rules governing the movements of the poor. regards Janine > From: anne.cole@ntlworld.com > To: eng-lincsgen@rootsweb.com > Date: Thu, 12 Jan 2012 22:36:32 +0000 > Subject: Re: [LIN] Removal Order - MARSON > > Janine, > > There is a lot of information about the poor law on the Lincolnshire Genuki > website Poor Law pages - you need also to read about settlement. > > http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LIN/poorsettlement_cole.html > > http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LIN/poorsettlement.html > > > There are no poor law documents for Louth parish, so no chance of finding a > settlement examination in Lincolnshire. 1. [LIN] Removal Order - MARSON
    2. Janine Gall
    3. Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me some information about removal orders. I have a family - JEMIMA wife of FRANCIS MARSON and her two children, FRANCIS WILLIAM and CLARA, receiving a removal order to Sculcoates in the East Riding of the County of York from Louth. Would this be because the family was destitute and originally came from Sculcoates? Would they have been sent back and have to find somewhere to live themselves or would they have been put into a Poor House, if so where would I find the records for this? Thanks Janine
