    3. I was reading yesterday about Charles Dickens' "Secret Affair".  It seems that Mr. Dickens had a "lady friend" who was an actress.  I could not find a link to Lincolnshire in the article, but it reminded me that on this list we have discussed such issues as "common law marriages", wife selling, divorce, bigamy and perhaps a few other issues about human pairing that fall outside of boundaries of the straight and narrow path. One thing the article mentioned is that, apparently, the couple burned all letters and documents tracing their relationship.  I thought that was a terrible loss.  My wife still has the letters and tapes I sent her from my service in Vietnam and she treasures them.  I would hope that none of us worries so much over what people will think of us when we are passed that we should burn or destroy any record of our lives.  But people do.  The same people who will gossip about Aunt Bessie and her "man friend" will toss out all her records when she dies.  Please don't.  I'm sorry if you are ashamed for her, but it is part of who she was.  We have little enough of her as it is. So if you have your grandmother's old letters in a box, why not transcribe them, put them on a CD-ROM and save them.  You can even put them on a web page if they don't make you cringe.  Did she have a boyfriend or future husband serving in France during the Great War?  Tell their story.  Was Uncle Bert in love with that young woman he met in the market square?  What did she tell him?  Did she fall for him?  If you like, you can share with us.  Who was kissing who in Spilsby in 1895? Now, if you were kissing someone in 1895, well!  Congratulations on living so long.  Now, dig out that box.     Lou (list admin.)

As he was baptised on the same day he was born it is likely he did not live. His parents probably never registered either his birth or his death. Their way of thinking probably "why bother, he's died" I am putting in a date of death as 13 July 1870. Best wishes, Alan No virus found in this message. It says : Robert, with parents Thomas Andrew & Charlotte, surname Brumpton, labourer, of Whitepit. So it does look as though Charlotte was the mother and they implied they were married at the time. We think it most likely that the baby died, and the burial not recorded. Judy & Harvey ----- Original Message ----- From: J Colling To: gyfh@googlegroups.com ; Jan Marchant Sent: Thursday, January 19, 2012 9:27 PM Subject: Re: [gyfh] Fwd: [LIN] Death Record Query Hi, Jan, Fiona sent on your message. As you know, Alan Sabey follows all Brumpton descendants, and we helped him with this for many years. In fact he continues to update his Brumpton tree, and we continue to help and exchange information. He has asked us to reply to your message.. Unfortunately, the only evidence for the existence of Robert, son of Thomas Brumpton seems to be his baptism in Swaby, 12 July 1870. It is a long time since we saw this record. It could be looked up again sometime at Lincoln Archives to see what exactly it says, and it may not record a birthdate (The Swaby baptism register is not on-line at Lincstothepast, though the burial register is for that period). As you say, there is no sign of him in 1871 or any of the other censuses. There also does not seem to be a birth registration (The Robert Brumpton born Sep Qr 1870 Louth Reg Dist was a different one, see below) Thomas Andrew Brumpton married Charlotte Sizer, 4 Jan 1872 at Driby, and continued to live in the Calceby/Whitepit/Swaby area. The most likely possibilities for Robert are : 1 He died and was missed off the burial register, or 2 He was "adopted" and brought up, possibly by relatives of his mother, and under some other surname. As regards marriages and deaths for Robert Brumptons of a similar age, we have a lot of information, (some is from certificates) a. Robert BRUMPTON, b 15 Jul 1870, Donington on Bain, son of Charles, married 4 Mar 1901, Bourne Chapel, Hull to Mary Ann BARR, and died 20 Mar 1946, Bridlington b. Robert BRUMPTON, b 11 Sep 1873, Rotherham, Yorks, married 1901 and 1913 Rotherham and died 6 Jan 1947, Rotherham c. Robert Brumpton, b 1874 Horncastle, died 4 Jan 1908, Boston d. Robert BRUMPTON, b 30 Aug 1865, Sedgefield, Co Durham, married 1891 Co Durham, and died 9 Nov 1932, Australia If there are any other marriages or deaths you would like us to identify, just let us know.. 3. Hi Peter, I have the Index for Parish Register Burials for the Yarborough Deanery which included Messingham and checked for you. There were 3 Alice's burials, one was an infant in 1860 and the other 2 burials(only one in Messingham) were for 73 year old women. So I don't think any of them were the correct ones.I did see Thomas died in 1877 and Hannah is on the 1881 census as a widow.I also checked on the FreeBMD, as you probably did, but couldn't find any marriage or burial for Alice there either. 3. I checked the burials for Messingham on Freereg, there were no burials in Messingham for Alice, Thomas her father was buried in Jan 1877 aged 39 and her mother Hannah in 1882 aged 48.  It might be worth looking at her aunts and uncles, here sister Mary Ann married George Emmerson and in 1891 her brother Frank is with her recorded as Frank STEN (I have corrected this on ancestry).  I would look at her uncles and aunts to see if she appears with them. Her mother's maiden name was Allison and she had a sister Ann who didn't marry and a brother William who was 7 years younger than her.  Her father's sister Alice Stow married James Ellsome and they also had an alice born the same year in Messingham, but your Alice did not appear with them. However the witness at the wedding of Mary Ann and George Emmerson is recorded as Alice Mary with no surname, could this be your Alice? regards Elaine Westaway ________________________________ From: Debbie Shearwood <shearg53@hotmail.com> To: eng-lincsgen@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, 23 January 2012, 16:46 Subject: Re: [LIN] Alice Stow - Messingham Hi Peter, I have the Index for Parish Register Burials for the Yarborough Deanery which included Messingham and checked for you. 3. Peter, Most of the Pinchbeck registers have already transcribed to FreeREG by various people - including Renee. http://freereg.rootsweb.com/ Images of the Pinchbeck registers are available online through Lincs to the Past. Marriages 1837+ won't be because the system can't take them, nor registers that contain entries for 1911 onwards because of the 100-year rule. http://www.lincstothepast.com/ The easiest way to find the register is to go to 'advanced search' and in the 'with the exact phrase' box enter the name of the parish followed by PAR 1. Lots of tips about how to use the site can be found in the 'help' section. Dear Listers, Owing to Mac.Degen.of the eyes - mainly affecting the reading of microfiche, I would like to offer the following Parish Registers I have on fiche - should anyone be interested in all or singly, and I will gladly post/forward same to anywhere from Australia. Also is the I.G.I. (last one done on fiche 1982) for Lincolnshire - quite useful it has been too!! Parishes are:- Pinchbeck / Gedney / Ruskington / Caythorpe / Folkingham / Horbling / Rauceby / Wigtoft / Threekingham / some Osbournby marriages I.G.I. Lincolnshire. These are useful for anyone doing transcription work. Best wishes Renee Oz.
