    3. HMS Nubian was a Royal Navy Tribal class destroyer. Her bows were destroyed by a torpedo from a German destroyer on the night of 26-27 October 1916 off Folkestone during the Battle of Dover Strait. She was taken in tow and run ashore near Dover. This was the ship that Joseph Smith served on. 3. The claim was highlighted on tonights Look North and Nick Barratt was interviewed who agreed with others that this Wilkinson line hailed from Durham originally through her 8x Great Grandfather Laurence Wilkinson who was born in Durham in 1620. Now that does not mean to say that there is not any link with the families that married into the Wilkinsons. The two trees that can be found from a Google search show a BETTS & a LACEY. Both are names found in Lincolnshire but from other available trees on ancestry it would seem that neither of these have Lincolnshire connections. One can only conclude that Meryl Streep was thinking of the Pilgrim Fathers and had picked up on the Boston connection and assumed incorrectly that her Wilkinson's were one of them. If this claim is followed up in the US and a Lincolnshire link is found can someone tell us please John R G Bland   Spalding   Member of the Lincolnshire Family History Society www.lincolnshirefhs.org.uk/ Reg. Excuse the delay in answering we have been standing off for three days.  I was so eager to get ashore, that I never gave my mind to writing.    Well I am pleased to hear that you are all well at home. I have not received any letters from Jarv yet, so send me his address.    You did well at the garden party to get the amount of money you mention. Ben will swank now he has got promoted.    We are getting quite industrious on our mess deck lately.. What does J Neave think of the Navy, does he like it alright.    I had an invitation to spend a day at Milmirly when I heard from there last. Well I am safe, and sound, bar having a lot of trouble with my throat lately.  So if you get me something, please send it along.     So will close now,          With best love to all            Your Loving Son,                   Joe                       XXXXXX (Please excuse scribble)

Fish are plentiful, and they bite well too.    We have plenty of music on our mess deck, namely two manodlines and one concertina.  I am thinking of buying a violin, when I go ashore again.  You would not think there was a war on, if you heard us at night.    Well I cannot write any news, only acknowledge your letters.  So will close.    With best love to all,          I remain, Your Loving Son,               XXXX  Joe  XX

    3. I have a Daniel JOHNSON and Ann WOODWARD married at Coningsby in 1797. I believe they later turn up in Old Leake where daughters Mary JOHNSON and Sarah JOHNSON were baptized in 1809 and 1814 respectively. Unfortunately there is a snag because unlike Sarah, Mary’s mother was recorded as ‘Mary’ instead of ‘Ann’. So far I have been unable to find any other marriage events for a Daniel JOHNSON in the Boston – Coningsby area for the period between 1797 – 1814. If anyone has access to the L.F.H.S. marriage index for this period I would appreciate a check to see that no such marriages took place. Thanks David Meredith – Nottingham

    3. Hi Ann, Sorry, live it Canada so can't make it to Olympia but I was interested when I saw your entry about History & Village books. Do you happen to know if the LFHS has any of those books about Barrow upon Humber or Roxby as I would be interested in them. If you do, would you know the Titles or the price, as I already own some, or is this something I can look up myself on the website? Thanks,Debbie Shearwood > Also a reminder that the LFHS bookstall will be at Olympia for Who Do You > Think You Are Live! on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th February, but NOT the > Sunday. We will also have a range of local history and "village" books.
