I wonder if someone could throw some light on a puzzle I have come across with my SHEPHERD's of Faldingworth, please? I have two baptisms as follows: Page 25 Entry No. 195 April 7th 1833 Ann dgt of William & Elizabeth SHEPPARD Faldingworth Labourer Page 27 Entry No. 210 Nov 23 1834 Ann dgt of William & Elizabeth SHEPPARD Faldingworth Labourer I can't find a corresponding burial for the first Ann. OR could it be a 'forgotten' baptism so Ann was re-baptised? There is obviously only one Ann in the 1841 census. Hope someone can help. Take care Jayne
Hi, Missing LIncs, Does anyone have the names from the North Scarle war memorial? I know that an "A. WELLS" is buried in the cemetery, from WWI, but that's all I've got. Lou
Hi, Missing Lincs, I just had a subscriber auto-unsubscribed because whe didn't have any disk space left for her e-mail. So, take a little time, clean out your old SENT folder and the trash. Or, just ask the service provider for more space. It's only money! Lou (list admin.)
Thomas Edward BOGG was only 17 when he found himself at the Battle of Jutland during World War I on HMS Defence. In a way, he was lucky. Most of the crew died quickly as the ship was torn apart by German shells. Tom is listed on the Spilsby Roll of Honour. There are other names there. Look for one of your kin: http://www.roll-of-honour.com/Lincolnshire/Spilsby.html Lou

A couple of suggestions that may offer you more help with your ARRAND search. Isle of Axholme FHS - axholme-fhs.org.uk they used to offer a parish records search. They also produce booklets for each parish with baptism, marriage and burial information. Red1st, a website for Isle of Axholme researchers - red1st.com This site has many ARRAND families listed but no Thomas Quickfall ARRAND. In fact other than his marriage entry I have found no other reference to him as Thomas Quickfall ARRAND. On 1841 census there is a Thomas ARRAND listed Mary ARRAND b abt 1811 Lincolnshire Thomas ARRAND b abt 1831 Lincolnshire Elizabeth ARRAND b abt 1832 Lincolnshire Living in Frodingham, Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire. This may or may not connect to your Thomas Quickfall ARRAND but could be worth exploring further. Find my Past and Ancestry do no appear to have any further information on your Thomas than that which I have sent you. Good Luck Hilary Sent from my iPad
Thank you to the listers who kindly replied to my query regarding the apparent 'follow up' baptisms of the Sharpley children. It would seem, on balance that, having been initially baptised at home according to the rites of the Wesleyan faith, they were later baptised at the Church of England All Saints as a formality - a kind of administrative insurance! the record I am trying to read is on Page 46, Billingborough Parish Records (General Register) 1661-1663 - it is a birth to William Crosby and his wife Ruth - my eyes are just not good enough ☹ Much appreciation Regards Jan Sent from Windows Mail
Hi Bazza and 'hello' again to Lou, Aslackby is an attractive little village, and like Folkingham and Rippingale next door, has had a most interesting history. We often walk in Temple Wood - on the edge of the village, and so called because there used to be a Temple there, run for the Knights Templars and the Hospitallers. There was a Templar tax collecting point somewhere on the edge of the airfield I mentioned, and Aslackby had a castle. Have a look at: http://parishes.lincolnshire.gov.uk/AslackbyandLaughton/section.asp?catId=14296 Visit the local history page, and see the Word file of 'List of documents held'. There is often more to these little villages than meets the eye. Cheers, Rex

Many many thanks REX, now that is something I never knew about, and it is very interesting, not only from the subject matter, but also because that is where my Family came from in the late 1600's, stranger than fiction. Hi Lou, I just Googled 'Folkingham airfield', and got a huge page of images which includes the rhyme I mentioned on the gatepost, as well as 'planes, scrap vehicles, racing cars, and the memorial in the new burial ground. The link looks complicated: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=folkingham+airfield&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=ttvLUpncOM25hAeo4IHwAg&sqi=2&ved=0CDsQsAQ&biw=1252&bih=606 I am not sure how this will travel in an email, but I am sure the page will interest you. In another page there was a link which included Google Earth, so you could walk on the airfield (moving the little yellow man) and the lanes around Aslackby. Rex

Hi Lou, Aslackby (pronounced Azelby) does indeed have a burial ground separate to the old site around the church. I have a son who lives there - and at the time that names on memorials were being researched, I visited the new graveyard (just off the A15 at the entrance to the village) to photograph a memorial to airmen who were on a nearby airfield during WW2. That image was submitted, so someone will have it copied online somewhere. Aslackby village hall had at that time some art work (can't remember whether it was water colour or pastels by an airman (United States Army Airforce) showing paratroopers jumping out of Dakota or Curtis bombers. The airfield (known as Folkingham Airfield - and I would rather not go into how that is pronounced) is still there, by Temple Wood, and is used by a local farmer/land owner to store (and probably sell) all sorts of vehicles and machinery. I walked out of the wood one day and was amazed to be confronted by a row of tanks! After the war the airfield runways were used by BRM to test their racing cars. There are occasionally meetings held for the cars and the area resounds to the sound of these vintage engines. See the Wiki article on RAF Folkingham/USAAF Station AAF-484 to get pictures of the aircraft. There is an inscription scratched onto a gate post at the old entrance to the airfield. I will get a copy of it sometime and post it to you - made me smile. Regards, Rex
