    1. [LINCOLN] Freemen of the City of Lincoln

    3. On Wednesday I downloaded a copy of the Lincoln City Apprentices and Freemen (1646 - 1867) from the LFHS. I immediately found 5 relations:- 2 x great grandfather Samuel Atkinson and 3 x great grandfather Preston Ward Atkinson. and 4 x great grandfather William Atkinson. There are three of Samuel's sons also listed: William, Richard, and Robert.Their entries state son of Samuel Atkinson Gas Fitter and one entry also states Hamburg'h'. I know Samuel was a gas fitter and that he had two other sons who worked in a gas factory in Hamburg, Germany. This evidence clearly confirms the connections. The one thing I didnt know was that Samuel had also worked in Hamburg before he died in Lincoln in 1851. He certainly moved around to different places: Lincoln, Hull, Beverly, Gainsborough, Thorne, and now Hamburg. All the above for once was the easy part, now I have quite a few other Atkinsons to work on from the list and see if they can also be connected. I must praise and thank Mrs Ann Cole for all the work she has done to make this list possible. Peter Atkinson LFHS member

    3. Thank you Peter It is pleasing to receive feedback from people who have found the Society publications useful and makes the time spent preparing them worthwhile. I hope you have availed yourself, as a member of the LFHS, of the Members Only Area where there are transcriptions of many items that are only available via personal visit to Lincolnshire Archives.
