Dear Listers, Recently, and especially since I posted the last YKS Surnames List Update yesterday, I have been receiving an increasing number of requests for information on individual names, whether already submitted or not. A typical example is: «I am looking for information on Joe Bloggs, married to Jane Smith, York, in or about 1842.» At the risk of being repetitive, I would like to remind everyone that the names on the YKS Surnames List ARE NOT MY NAMES. I do not do any lookups nor do I post any messages. The Yorkshire (YKS) Surnames List is a free service that offers researchers a chance to post the surnames, and surnames only, they are looking into and others the chance to contact them directly for information. To contact other researchers who may have posted a surname you are interested in, you must go to: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/YKSlist/ and you will get to the YORKSHIRE Surnames Home Page. There is an alphabetical Index there and all you have to do is go to the letter that corresponds to the name, or names, you are interested in. You may wish to use your Find tool to get to the first entry of the surnames you are interested in. To contact another submitter, just click on EMAIL and you will get a form that you can use to contact that person directly. Email addresses are no longer posted per se on the YKS List, to help prevent harvesting of addresses. The appropriate place for posting queries about specifici individuals is on a genealogy list, such as the one that is posting this message from me. For information on genealogy lists for Yorkshire, go to the Genuki pages at: http://www.genuki.org.uk While you are at the YKS Home Page, take a minute to read the instructions for submitting surnames if you are not already familiar with them.
