Hello All I'm particularly looking for information on the marriage between Thomas Tomlinson (born 1871 Ulverston,Lancs) and Rebecca Kidd (born 1872 Bentham Yorks). Also the whereabouts of her parents William and Sarah Kidd who I have traced were still in Bentham in the 1881 census but there appears to be no trace of the family in Bentham in the 1901 census. Hope anyone can help Thomas Tomlinson

Hi List My name is Jackie Blackman and although I am new to this list, I have been a member of several other lists over the last few years. I am trying to trace descendents of my BRAMMA family who originated in Leeds in the 18th century, but one branch of which moved at some point to the Manchester area. In the 1901 census George BRAMMA (born abt 1835 in Holbeck, Yorkshire) was living with his wife Hannah and 3 of their children at 74 Bignor Street, Manchester. The younger 2, George, born 1874 and Mary, born 1877 were born in Manchester. I am doing a one-name study on this family and my website can be seen at www.bramma.co.uk <http://www.bramma.co.uk/> Any contacts/information would be gratefully received. Hi List Not sure if I am on the right list for Blackpool, but here goes. I am trying to get a current photo of a guest house called Wyke House at 24 Coop Street in Blackpool. I have requested there brochure but it does not have a photo. My mother stayed there with her family in the 30's and it's still a guest house. Apparently it is on one of the back streets near the tower. I wonder if anyone is in Blackpool they would be willing to take a photo and send it to me. I would gladly reimburse any expenses. Regards June Chatterton Sheffield, UK

These are again mainly photographs of churches, but with transcriptions for Aldby Park, and street name indexes for Leeds, Halifax, Huddersfield and Bradford. Those of you who have explored the 9,000+ pages on the Genuki Yorkshrie site will be aware that there are a lot of transcriptions of names from War Memorials, lists of vicars etc., on the site. Most of these have been done by Patricia Hayward, but I have a lot more photographs of Yorkshire WMs etc. yet to be transcribed that Pat doesn't have. If you have some spare time and are interested in doing some of these, please drop me a line. Magdalena, It looks good! One suggestion I propose would be to add a link to the surname submission info on each surname page. Maybe an easy way to do that would be to just edit "Return to Main Page" to include "and Surname Submission Information." Best wishes, Lynne Magdalena Gorrell Guimaraens wrote: >Last, but not least. Dear Listers, We are fast approaching 20,000 submissions - I assume that this is an expression of the usefulness of the list. In order to make it easier for you to find the name(s) you are interested in, with the help of Colin Hinson (without whom none of this would be possible) I have re-arranged the index breakdown of names. Each grouping is now much smaller than before and this should speed up your search. Take this opportunity to go to the home page and check your own submissions to make sure that all your information is correct and up-to-date. Remember, if your email bounces, your entry(ies) will be summarily deleted. There is no form for changes of any kind - you must email me directly at: YKSsurnames@yahoo.com. Please remember to send me BOTH the old and the new information, without which I cannot make any changes. Do not re-submit your name(s) if all you want to do is make a change to the date, place or your email. For newcomers to our genealogy lists: The YKS SURNAMES LIST is a free and totally voluntary service that is provided to everyone who is researching a SURNAME in Yorkshire. Please note that only surnames are accepted and only locations within Yorkshire. A surname appears as often as there is a researcher who has submitted it, which is why some names are repeated time and time again. To find or look up a name you are interested in, go to the website at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/YKSlist/, find the letter grouping in which your name of interest should appear and click. You will get a page of names. Scroll until you find what you are looking for. If you click on the submitter's email address, you will get a pop-up form that you can use to contact that person directly. Do note that these are NOT my surnames. They belong to other people, so please do not ask me to do any lookups. Also, please do not ask me to post a notice as this is not that kind of list. To post messages, you should go to a genealogy list. For a list of genealogy lists for Yorkshire, go to: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/. Last, but not least. If I have made some huge mistake in the face-lift process, please let me know. Goodness knows I am far from perfect - no matter how much I try! This is a long shot - hoping someone out there might be able to help me solve my mystery!! Found links in a house lived in by BUTLERs and HEATHERILLs in Leicester to a girl called Amelia SAVILLE born 1821 in Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire. Butlers have been in Leicester since at least 1825, Heatherills came to Leicester from Glasgow between 1881 and 1901. Butlers have married NORTONs from Kettering, and Heatherills have married MONTEATHs from Scotland. What I don't know is where Amelia fits in (if she fits in - she could just have been a friend)!! Can find plenty of ancestors for Amelia - but no marriage or descendants. Her parents were George Saville and Mary SUTTON, and she had 4 brothers - Ellis, James, Henry and John, and a sister - Hannah (siblings all born in Ashton under Lyne) - but can find no trace of any of them anywhere in 1881. The Saville family originated in Yorkshire. Would appreciate any suggestions as to how I can solve this mystery which is really bugging me!! Thanks, Maggie in Leics
Hi there! I am new to this list, but have been searching my family through other lists. Having come to a brick wall in my search for my Ggrandmother's family in Devon/Dorset, I have turned to another part of my family. What I am looking for now is any more details about Joseph PARKIN, born around 1876 in Westow, Yorkshire, father Joseph and mother Sarah. He married Beatrice Louise STARKEY and is thought to have been working as a Poor Law Officer in in Warrington by about 1910 or so when his son, another Joseph, was born. I have found him living with his parents on the 1881 census, but nothing after that. I would really appreciate finding out more about him, or finding some more relatives. I have tried the Cheshire list, as Warrington is now in Cheshire, but with no success so far. Thanking you in advance from sunny (sort of) Normandy and looking forward to hearing from you. Mandy Currently researching : PARKIN - Wolsingham, County Durham / Westow, Yorkshire / Warrington, Lancs HORLOCK - Bournemouth, Christchurch, Lymington, Hampshire TOLMAN - Axminster, Devon / Dorset QUINN - Dudley, Worcestershire / Coldstream Guards
Hi Have only subscribed, so I can pass this on. If I've chosen the wrong list, would SKS please forward it for me? Will be unsubbing right after sending this. Thanks, Caroline Boston NOTTSGEN, DERBYSGEN, ENG-KENT member http://www.londonancestor.com/bells/1827-starve.htm (No.1827, Sunday, April 3, 1831.) A Prisoner starved to Death. An inquest was held at Rochdale, a few days since, on the body of a young man named Richard Pilling, a pauper in the Wardleworth workhouse. It appeared that the deceased had been taken to the prison, and confined in a solitary cell, in which there was no bed, no covering, nor any thing for him to lie down upon but a bench of wood of about a yard broad; that he had been confined therein fifteen days, and was discovered by a person (who was appointed to consign another wretched being to the same den) lying naked on the stone floor, which was covered with filth! He was in a dying state, with a portion of his clothes in his mouth, and he had been in that state nearly the whole of his imprisonment. In consequence of representations made by the person who discovered the unhappy man, he was carried, about ten o'clock that night, to the workhouse, where he died in ten hours afterwards. The jury returned a verdict that he "died from hunger;" and in consequence Richard Hargreaves, Eli! zabeth (otherwise Betty) Burrows, and Hannah Holt, were committed to Lancaster for manslaughter. -Manchester Herald.
