List: Below are the Genuki Yorkshire additions which were sent to me by Colin Hinson. All questions concerning these should be directed to Colin Hinson. Thank you. Sarah McCray ENG-LANCS-YORKS list administrator ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Folks, Please find below the Genuki Yorkshire additions for the past couple of weeks. These mainly consist of transcriptions from Pigot's 1829 directory and Church photographs. Most of the additional photographs are from Sheffield. These were taken over the weekend with the nice blue sky, but the others from the towns and villages to the north east of Sheffield were taken the week before when it decided to rain :-( Best wishes, Colin Hinson In the village of Blunham in Bedfordshire U.K. Webmaster for the Genuki Yorkshire pages: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/ Rare Books on CD: http://www.blunham.demon.co.uk/CDroms/ Baine's & Bulmers directories, History of Craven, Heywood/Northowram, National gazetteer of G.B & Ireland, Whelan's York & NRY Hunter's Hallamshire (Sheffield), Yorkshire: Past and Present Poulson's Holderness, Turner's Brighouse, etc etc >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Places in brackets are the relevant (ancient) parishes. Dear Listers, Below, the list of surnames submitted this past week. There have also been quite a few corrections to emails and other data, for which I thank submitters. Please remember, these ARE NOT MY NAMES so don't ask me to do lookups. Also, I do not post messages or other information, so don't ask me to do that either. The best place place for such postings is one of the Yorkshire genealogy lists. Enjoy your summer! Hi all I am new to the list and would like to post my Lancashire/Cumberland interest, sorry for any cross-posting. I have the following information from the 1881 census and would like to go back to the one before 1871? to find more children as there is a ten year gap between Jane and William. I am not sure what years they were in Lancashire or Cumberland Also, I would be interested in the address they were living at if anyone knows of it. Since we are neighbors of Cumberland, you might check out their surname list. It is alphabetical by surname being researched, and shows all the CUMBERLAND Listers researching that name. There are 2,000 entries as of today's update. www.dfnoble.com/CULnames It does not give dates or locations, but even the lurkers submitted their names. Sarah in Texas
Dear Listers, Below is the list of the 60 surnames that were added to the YKS list by researchers this week. As a result of my recent housekeeping, many duplicate entries have been deleted and I also deleted 15 entries pertaining to one researcher whose email repeatedly bounced. Please remember to inform me of any email changes at YKSsurnames@yahoo.com I am still waiting to hear from most of those individuals whose duplicate entries (with different email addresses) led me to post their names earlier this week. Also, in spite of my more or less gentle reminders, I am still receiving blank emails from aol.com listers. Please read the instructions - they have been re-written and should be extremely user friendly, even for the most cyber-challenged of us all! Hello Listers My relative in Canada has a dilemma and would appreciate some help with it. Vera's WOODHEAD family appears to have moved between Yorkshire and Lancashire. Robert WOODHEAD was born 1821 in Kirkburton Eliza WOODHEAD was born 1816 in Manchester This couple married in 1844 in Yorkshire Children found on the ICI website: Robert Sarah Ann William (born 1854 - shown on 1881 census living with Annie HIGHAM.) William is shown as born in Stockport, Cheshire. He died in 1898 in Bury, Lancashire. All three children were christened January 26 1862 in Manchester Cathedral. It appears that the children were christened twice, once in Yorkshire, and again in Lancashire. Does this sound feasible? Has anyone ever heard of this kind of thing happening? Is it likely that they changed religion when they moved to Lancashire, and therefore were re-christened? Does anyone have any ideas of where we can look to check the details of this puzzling family? Vera would be most grateful for any help you could give. Best wishes Jen
Dear Listers, I have been doing my annual housekeeping of the YKS list. I have just erased 29 duplicate submissions. Please remember that if you wish to make any additions to your submissions, such as adding places and/or dates, please email me at YKSsurnames@yahoo.com and I will be happy to amend them. Please don't forget to give me your email as you submitted it, so that I can exactly identify your submission and no-one else's. This is a good opportunity for everyone to check their submissions and inform me of any amendments you would like me to process. IMPORTANT - The following submitters have duplicate submissions for one or more names, but with TWO DIFFERENT email addresses. As I still do not have access to Broadband and I have to pay by the minute for my email connection, you will appreciate my following request: Please check to see whether yours is one of the names listed below and email me urgently at YKSsurnames@yahoo.com, telling me which of the two emails is to be deleted. List: Below are the updates to the Genuki Yorshire site sent to me by Colin Hinson. Again, any questions, etc. concerning these should be directed to Colin Hinson. Sarah McCray ENG-LANCS-YORKS list administrator ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Folks, Please find below the list of Genuki Yorkshire additions and updates for the past 4 weeks or so. This list is posted to all the Yorkshire Rootsweb lists, so my apologies if you have multiple copies. My thanks to all who have contributed, and if I left anyone out of the list, please let me know. In view of the number of "Where is it" queries on some of the lists, I should like to point out that there is on the Genuki Yorkshire site a set of pages called "Where is it in Yorkshire". To the best of my knowledge, these contain the names with links to a description of all the Hamlets, Villages and towns in Yorkshire, and in some cases, single houses too. (If you know different, then please tell me about it). You will also find maps - wapentakes, parishes, and a detailed map of Yorkshire, designed with the Family Historian in mind (it shows which places were in which parish). You will find the "Where is it" pages at: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/Misc/Where/ please remember to read the all notes, as they may save you some searches in future. If you are looking for somewhere that isn't listed try using the full list of place names and doing a text search on the list - for intance if you are looking for Aughty Bridge and do a search for "y Bridge" you will find Oughty Bridge...........etc. If you are looking for nearby places, don't forget to use the "Nearby places" double headed arrow at the top of each parish page - this will give you grid references too. You will find the maps under the Maps heading on the main Genuki Yorkshire page. You will also find a heap of other information on that page too. There are currently a total of approx. 10,500 pages on the Genuki Yorkshire site - enough to keep you reading for a week or so<g>. Dear Listers, Below, is the list of new submissions to date. There have also been several changes in email addresses and some deletions, so you may wish to check the details for the names you are interested in and update your records. I have also updated the instructions for submitting surnames that you will find when you click on the submit surnames link that you will find on the YKS home page at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/YKSlist/. I hope that these are now clearer for everyone, even those who are not used to using the internet. Remember, this is your list as much as it is mine. I welcome all suggestions and contributions so, take a look at the new instructions and let me know if you think any part of it could be clearer or different. Hello listers, Below is the list of the surnames that were updated this week to the list. A SPECIAL APPEAL TO ALL SUBMITTERS. Yes, I am shouting. Please, please take the trouble to read all the instructions that we give when you click on the submissions link, especially if your server is AOL.COM. This past week, I spent as much time sending notices to submitters who sent me blank emails, as I did downloading forms or correct manual submissions. If you can't be bothered to follow the instructions, I can't be bothered to tell you what you did wrong. So, from now on, I will just DELETE your emails. I will reply to those whose servers occasionally do not forward the form - it is not their fault.
