Hello I have a relative from Yorkshire that was a Clothier. I presumed and was told that this is a seller of clothes. My sister thinks that it is another term for a weaver, is this correct? Jean
Dear submitters and listers, Below is the list of surnames that were added this week to the YKS Surnames List. I would like to thank all those who have written me over the past few months, telling me of their successes through the list. I am absolutely delighted that I am being of some service. In the interests of keeping a tidy list, I have been doing some housekeeping. Many of you will receive one or more emails from me, either telling them that they have omitted a contact name or that they have entered two or more different email addresses. If you receive one of these, please reply as soon as you can and remember - DO NOT RESUBMIT your surnames. Doing so will only create even more duplicates. Just send me the corrections and your current email addres and I'll do the rest. This goes for everyone who has any kind of change or amendment to make to their entry(ies). The form can only be used for submitting NEW names. Anything else, I have to do manually. When asking me to make a change or amendment, please remember to include all the details in the body of your message. Only thus can I be sure that I have identified the correct submission. Many thanks everyone, Magdalena ......... Antony, Arthur, Old Pete, Shelbey, Sonja: I can't believe how kind you people are. Thank you all sincerely; I am sure that, with all the important information you have given me, I will trace James Peak and even beyond. Kind regards, Bridget.
I just searched through Google (UK) for Commonwealth War Graves and logged into their site. There are a lot of J/James PEAK/E listed there, including a couple from a Lancashire Regiment. I wonder if these may be who you are searching for? Might be worth a look! www.cwgc.org (I think that is right!!) Sonja Redcliffe, Queensland, Australia. Growing branches on the tree of Watson, Willison, Draper, Jepson & Foster (Yorkshire), Taggart (Just a twig!), Brooke/s (South Africa, India & Kent), Carter (Huntingdonshire), Smith (Cambridgeshire),Lacon (Shropshire) and Mason (Lancashire).
Hi Bridget; I have had a quick look and there seem to be a few. PEAK: Robert 41Bolton, Mary 33 Liverpool, Jane Ann 13 Darwen, James 12 Darwen, Thomas 9 Darwen, Maggie 6 Darwen, Robert 2 mths Darwen. The other James Peak is 43. PEAKE: Thomas 53 Coal Miner Atherton, Ann 48? Silk Weaver Bedford, James 14 Pony Driver in Coal Mine Bedford, Ellis 4 Bedford. James Peake as a lodger with a waste picker. James aged 9 born Halliwell and a scholar. There are also a few 7 year olds if you would like them as well. HTH Sonja Redcliffe, Queensland, Australia. Growing branches on the tree of Watson, Willison, Draper, Jepson & Foster (Yorkshire), Taggart (Just a twig!), Brooke (South Africa, India & Kent), Carter (Huntingdonshire), Smith (Cambridgeshire),Lacon (Shropshire) and Mason (Lancashire).
James Peake would appear to have been born in Kearsley or Bolton based on the 1901 census These two are the only realistic entries James Peake 18 Lancs Kearsley Lancaster Farnworth Coal Miner Putter James Peake 19 Bolton Lancs Bolton Cb Bolton Fleter Foundry On a light note, I find it difficult to putt on the greens so how James went on putting down a coal mine I don't know ! I have come up against a brick wall in trying to trace my grandfather James Peak(e) who died aged 33 (?) in 1915 (killed in action WW1). I know that he was born in Lancashire, but probably just after the 1881 census. Thank you. Bridget (Berkshire).

Good evening Listers, Just a note to say I will be unsubbing from these two lists as there is only one person I am looking for - as per earlier maily. If anyone does happen across Ann Tasker born c.1810 Manchester, then lived and married in Leeds can you drop me a line on my e-mail addy. Many thanks and happy hunting. Jen
My sincere apologies if I have posted this already. Ann Tasker born c1810 Manchester (?) married Thomas Lamb 7th June 1830 St. peter Leeds. Ann Tasker's brother (Robert) was living with the family in Leeds - he was unmarried and himself a Leeds man. I am beginning to wonder if she was actually born in Manchester therefore? Any connections? Jen

Hi, is there anyone who would have access to and be wiling to look up a family of BROWN on the 1841 or 51 census in 13 Heathill Sttreet, Salford? The family should include a John Brown "of age" in 1846 and possibly Robert Brown - John's father on the 1841 census. Robert's occupaation was a smith in 1846 when John married. Any information would be appreciated Thanks Ann

With the very kind permission of the list administrator:- This message is to announce a new RootsWeb list which may be of interest to you: LANCSLIFE. This list is meant to be a companion to this and other Lancashire-related lists, but instead of being devoted to family history/genealogy, it is a list on which the life and times of our ancestors can be discussed. Topics include all things related to Lancashire life including dialect, slang, and sayings; culture and traditions; history of towns and villages; folklore; poetry and songs; recipes; and nostalgic essays. In other words, those topics generally not discussed on a genealogy list! Please consider joining in on the fun. Subscription to the list is as usual: A message containing only the single word "subscribe" in both the subject line and body sent to LANCSLIFE-L-request@rootsweb.com (list mode) or to LANCSLIFE-D-request@rootsweb.com (digest mode). Best wishes, Lynne
