Hello Everyone : Might someone be able to give me the address and/or fax number of the office to write to, to obtain an official MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE for a family member who married in England in 1869 ? Much obliged Barbara Neish - Bermuda neishnook@ibl.bm
Hello Everyone We seem to be stuck at the year 1839 and so need to find the PARENTS of NORMAND YULE WYLIE, born Liverpool. He did not marry until 1869 and so it has occured to me that he would be a child on the early census lists in LIVERPOOL and, no doubt, living with the parents I seek. But how to check the 1841 - 1851 or 1861 census for that area? Might someone know if the Indexes are available and, if so, where? Much obliged Barbara Neish - Bermuda neishnook@ibl.bm
I have a Samuel HUSTLER whose given place of birth is Harden Bingley. I was given to understand that these were two seperate hamlets. Can SKS help me out? His address at the time of the 1881 census was given as Cragg House Bingley so would I be reasonable correct in presuming his birthplace could have been Bingley? Many Thanks Sonja Redcliffe, Queensland, Australia. Hello Everyone : My WYLIE family originated in the Tulliallen, KINCARDINE-ON-FORTH, Scotland area, several moving to DUNDEE and many to St. Petersburg, RUSSIA, I have the Family Tree topped with WILLIAM WYLIE & MARGARET DICKIE born about 1709 in CLACKMANNAN, Scotland. One family, at least, moved to LIVERPOOL, Lancashire, England with NORMAND YULE WYLIE born there January 1, 1839. He married JANE GLYNN in 1869. He was an ENGINEER who went to EGYPT and worked on the SUEZ CANAL & The ASWAN DAM They had the following children JANE 1871 in ALEXANDRIA, EGYPT ROBERT 1872 in FAIRFIELD,Lancashire - Married Annie SHEARER, Born Hankow, China - Annie's Father was a MISSIONARY DOCTOR MARY 1875 in BOOTLE, Lancashire HENRY 1878 in BOOTLE, Lancashire - Organist at Liverpool Cathedral- Married Emily It is thought that Normand Yule Wylie's father might have been a ROBERT WYLIE who might have been born in ENGLAND as well, however, we feel he was the one to move from SCOTLAND and that is the object of my quest to-day. We seem to be stuck at the year 1839 and so need to find the parents of NORMAND YULE WYLIE. He did not marry until 1869 and so It has occured to me that he would be a child on the early census lists in LIVERPOOL and, no doubt, living with the parents I seek. But how to check the 1841 - 1851 or 1861 census for that area? Might someone be able to give me direction or might any of these details be known to anyone? Much Obliged Barbara Neish - Bermuda neishnook@ibl.bm

I am looking for my Great Grandfather John Peatfield born in Whitefield, Lancashire ca 1835. Father's name was Samuel. Probably baptised in St. Mary's, Prestwich. Married Margaret Rawlinson in Bury in 1856. Any information welcome but particularly backward from Samuel.
Dear Listers, When you next go to the YKS Surnames List to search for contacts or to check on your own entries, you will find that it has a new face in an attempt to ensure that each submitter's information is more private. Special thanks to Colin Hinson for his software, without which none of this would be possible. Individual emails no longer appear. This is to stop others from mass reaping your emails from the list. This is not 100% foolproof, as any glutton for punishment who wishes to click individually on each entry could always find a way, but can you imagine anyone wanting to click on almost 20,500 entries, one by one! LOL To contact a submitter, all you have to do is click on "EMAIL" which appears next to each name. You will immediately get a popup form that you can use to contact that person directly. That form, and only that form, will show the recipient's email address. IMPORTANT: If you want to check your email, just click "EMAIL" as above. If you want me to change your email address, the procedure is the same as before. Send me you OLD email, together with your NEW email. That's all I need. Once is enough, even if you have many entries. I don't need the names you have submitted to change your address. Just your old AND your new address. If you don't send me BOTH, I can't identify you with any precision. (Sorry for shouting, but too many people still think I can work miracles and don't follow instructions.) I still have the master control of all your entries. Please continue to send me your changes to your email addresses, dates, places, etc. Remember, there is no form for any of these changes. You have to email me directly. Please only use the following email address for this purpose: YKSsurnames@yahoo.com. Bookmark it. Best regards to everyone. Hello all, I have just subscribed to this list. It seems to be the likeliest one of all the Lancs lists to be able to answer my question. If I'm wrong, please point me in the right direction. I am following a rather slim lead. My ggrandfather was born in County Clare but left for London and thence to US in 1870. After deserting the US Cavalry in 1871 he presented a letter from his father at his court martial. In the letter his father mentions a boot/shoemaker called "barny" in 'beacup". It seems that they both worked for him and given ggrandfather's age at the time, he may have been apprenticed. They may have been in "beacup" or Bacup, Lancs about 1861. Could sks look them up in the 1861 census or a directory about that time for me please? They were: Edward DEVERS and his son John H DEVERS who was born about 1847 in County Clare. The whole story can be found on my page at: http://members.shaw.ca/bart34/genealogy.html -- Cheers, John on Vancouver Island, BC mailto:bart34@shaw.ca Using The_Bat! version 1.62r and Opera on Windows 98 SE

Dear Listers, I am finally back on track timewise so this is the second update this week. In true Halloween fashion, the wicked witch strikes again. Somewhere in cyberspace there are a dozen or so persons who are wondering why their surnames are not appearing on this week's update list. Quite simply, they have been consigned to the netherlands of the goblins, where all individuals who cannot, or won't, read the instructions for submitting surnames that are given on the YKS home page (at the link given below with my signature) go. I can tell the difference between persons who are not all that computer experienced and emails from aol.com users who won't read instructions. So, no flames, please. Below is the list of new submissions. Happy Halloween everyone!
