    1. [ENG-LANCS-YORKS] Hague relatives
    2. Bev McKinnon
    3. Hello all: I am looking for living relatives of my grandfather Robert Joseph Hague born 1891 in Preston Lancs to Joseph and Jane Smith Hague. They continued to live in Preston as I have his elementary school report. He was in the Scots Guards for 11yrs d/c in 1920. He married in 1917 to Isabella Wigmore and in 1922 they emigrated to Canada. Grandfather had 2 young nieces or cousins, named Florrie and Lily Hague. They would have been about 4-6yrs in the earliest photos. The last photo is of the wedding of Lily Hague but we did not know her married name. Florrie lived, apparently, for many years at 82 Fir Trees Ave. in Preston. I am having no luck finding even a birth record in the Census for my grandfather even though I have his birth certificate and other relevant documents. I thought that if I could trace Florrie through grandfather's info I would find living relatives. Any help would be appreciated. Beverley Hague McKinnon

    1. [ENG-LANCS-YORKS] YKS Surnames List: Requests for information
    2. Magdalena Gorrell Guimaraens
    3. Dear Listers, Recently, and especially since I posted the last YKS Surnames List Update yesterday, I have been receiving an increasing number of requests for information on individual names, whether already submitted or not. A typical example is: «I am looking for information on Joe Bloggs, married to Jane Smith, York, in or about 1842.» At the risk of being repetitive, I would like to remind everyone that the names on the YKS Surnames List ARE NOT MY NAMES. I do not do any lookups nor do I post any messages. The Yorkshire (YKS) Surnames List is a free service that offers researchers a chance to post the surnames, and surnames only, they are looking into and others the chance to contact them directly for information. To contact other researchers who may have posted a surname you are interested in, you must go to: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/YKSlist/ and you will get to the YORKSHIRE Surnames Home Page. There is an alphabetical Index there and all you have to do is go to the letter that corresponds to the name, or names, you are interested in. You may wish to use your Find tool to get to the first entry of the surnames you are interested in. To contact another submitter, just click on EMAIL and you will get a form that you can use to contact that person directly. Email addresses are no longer posted per se on the YKS List, to help prevent harvesting of addresses. The appropriate place for posting queries about specifici individuals is on a genealogy list, such as the one that is posting this message from me. For information on genealogy lists for Yorkshire, go to the Genuki pages at: http://www.genuki.org.uk While you are at the YKS Home Page, take a minute to read the instructions for submitting surnames if you are not already familiar with them. You might with to print this email out and keep it handy. I, for one, would appreciate your doing so. All the best, Magdalena Magdalena Gorrell Guimaraens YKS Surnames List Administrator http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/YKSlist/ YKSsurnames@yahoo.com

    1. Re: [ENG-LANCS-YORKS] Parents and siblings of Elizabeth Buckley
    2. sarah Mccray
    3. Robbie: Let me try to interpret that entry for you. If I read it right, it is saying that an Elizabeth Akroyd married a Thos. Buckley and their children were a son, Thomas Edward Buckley and a daughter Elizabeth Buckley. Of course, these might not be yours but wanted to clarify it for others who might, in the future, come across these posts in the archives. Sometimes a person has to really study the entries in the book to figure out what Henry Ecroyd Smith was trying to say. 1. Re: [ENG-LANCS-YORKS] Parents and siblings of Elizabeth Buckley
    2. Sarah I don't have an Akroyd in my records I am saying that Elizabeth Buckley married William Hiram Wood. abt 1853 at St Chads, Rochdale. They had a son John Thomas Wood, born Oct 18, 1864 in Manchester, a daughter UNK, and another son William Wood. Elizabeth (Buckley) Wood died in 1865 and John Thomas (7 mos of age) was taken to live with sister Buckley. I am looking for any information on the Buckley or Wood families in Lancashire and WRY area. Sorry for the confusion. I'm new at this Robbie

    2. Dear Sarah Thanks so much for your response, I appreciate your interest. I don't think we have a connection since Buckley was Elizabeth's maiden name. Her married name was Wood. They had a son John(my grandfather)who was adopted by her sister (UNK) after the death of Elizabeth. Elizabeth also had a brother Edmund. I have no other information. ******************************************************************* Elizabeth Buckley b 1831 in Limbo, near Rochdale. died May 8, 1864 in Dobcross, Buried in Saddleworth Churchyard, married to William Hiram Wood, 20 Mar 1853, St Chad's, Rochdale, Lancashire, England (my Great grandparents) *********************************************************************** Robbie > Following is an entry I found in the book I have "Annals of Smith > of > Cantley, Balby, and Doncaster" and compiled by Henry Ecroyd Smith, > which could possibly be yours: > > "Elizabeth Akroyd, wife of the Rev. 3. Robbie: Welcome to the list. Following is an entry I found in the book I have "Annals of Smith of Cantley, Balby, and Doncaster" and compiled by Henry Ecroyd Smith, which could possibly be yours: "Elizabeth Akroyd, wife of the Rev. Thos. Buckley; died 1 VI. 1857, having had issue----Thomas Edward Buckley, of Trin. Coll. Cambridge. Elizabeth" The book was published in 1878 and the compiler may not have not had time to track down more information. I hope this helps. Please let me know if sometime you can confirm a match. If this does prove to be your ggrandparents, let me know and I can give you information on the Akroyd side. 2. Riley Jones
    3. Hi Nick Since you're in Australia, I thought I'd let you know that, in addition to Jan's helpful advice, you may also be able to access the GRO indexes to the marriage records at your State library - the State Library in Melbourne has a very good collection of the indexes on micro fiche which are freely available in the dedicated Genealogy section. These indexes are divided up into 4 quarters of each year - March, June, September and December - for the events registered in the 3 months of each quarter. If you use these and you don't know when your grandparents were married, you should probably work backwards from the known date of birth of your father, looking for either or both of William Gerrard and Mary Elizabeth Stringfellow. I'm fairly certain that the marriage indexes around that time list the name of the person and the surname of the person they are marrying. This can be quite laborious but will pay off once you finally locate them. Once you get an index reference, you will need to apply for the marriage certificate, to get the full details. Information about how to do this can be found at http://www.statistics.gov.uk/registration/certificates.asp or you can get someone in Australia to do it for you if you don't want the hassle - this may be a little more expensive. If you do itself via, eg, post or fax, each certificate costs 8.50 GBP - inclusive of postage. Hope this helps. Good luck Riley Jones Melbourne, Australia Researching BANKS, BEET (yorks), ROOKE (Heref), ROBB (Scot), JONES (Ches and Lancs), ROBERTS (Denbigh). -----Original Message----- From: GeeJay [mailto:gee.jay@uq.net.au] Sent: Friday, 21 November 2003 8:04 AM To: ENG-LANCS-YORKS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ENG-LANCS-YORKS] RE: Nick, looking for information Hello Nick, You are on the right track, going back one step at a time.
