    1. [ENG-LANCS-YORKS] Stott
    2. Evelyn, I am not researching those names, but the name Stott sounded familiar to me. So, I racked my brain for a few minutes and remembered where I saw the name....On the marriage certificate for my g,g,g,g grandfather Abraham Barrett, Standishgate, to my g,g,g,g grandmother Jane Pennington, Wigan Lane, was a witness named Ann Stott. The marriage took place at the Parish church in Wigan on Sept. 4 1838. Ann Stott signed by mark, not signature, along with Levi Sidebottom. The marriage was performed by Charles Bisset, Curate. Sorry I couldn't be of any more help. If you come across any information about my g,g,g,g grandparents, I would be greatly appreciative!! Thanks, Stephanie Barrett-Saunders

    3. Hi Connie, The only Thomas SMITH, 14, living in Barrow-in-Furness is living with his mother Sarah, 65; and her other children Henry, 40 and Alice, 11. Thomas was born Liverpool. The ages do look rather unlikely, and the names are a bit indistinct. If this is not your Thomas, do you have his birthplace. The entry in 1881 or 1901 (or even both) would be a help. My spinster great great grandmother Ann BANK named her father as Jonas BOOTH on her marriage certificate in 1800s. I have been unable to ascertain proof of this. Her birth in the early 1830s has not been found yet. Also - can someone tell me if the St. Ambrose registers for Grindleton have been copied by the Preston Records Office yet? 2 years ago when I was there, the then holder of the church records would not make them available. I live in hope that one day that will change.... 3. Hello-- Would someone with access to the Barrow in Furness 1891 census please do a look-up for me? I am looking for my grandfather, Thomas Rothery Smith, who would have been living with his aunt and uncle at the time. Their name was STUART (possibly Stewart, but I do not have first names). Thomas would have been 14 (almost 15) at the time of the census. Unfortunately I also do not have an address for them other than Barrow in Furness. I would appreciate learning any information the census might contain about him, his aunt and uncles and cousins. Thank you. Connie Hinckley Alameda, CA, USA appreciated. 3. Dear Peter One of these days I'll stop writing confusing emails! Joshua & Judith Firth Willey are Joseph's parents living in Greasbrough. This has been the base home of the various Willeys for, my cousin Jean tells me, about 500 years. We have been searching for the marriage of Joseph to "Mary" for a long time. In censuses, she stated she was born either in Witwell or Hambly, DBY. On the IGI can find nothing that fits. Finally, found the marriage in Lancs on LDS film 0438192/3, had a photocopy made but it isn't easy to read some parts, namely, is she the daughter of Henry Cheatham and the widow Lane OR is her maiden name Lane and she the widow of Cheatham. We have an LDS library here so will go there next week and see what I can find in their computer records as they have info I cannot access from my computer. Will get back to you. Am having an interesting hunt! My best regards, Virginia

    2. magdalena gorrell guimaraens
    3. Dear Listers and submitters, It took me a while, but here is the latest update - all of two weeks' worth and 98 new submissions!  A very special thanks is owed to Colin Hinson who, once again, has had to put up with my SOS's - I left home with a fancy new laptop to which I had carefully transferred by YKS files - all except the vital software!!!  Anyhow, better late than never and the list of new submissions is given below. Also given below, the names/emails that have been bouncing.  All submissions with these addies have been deleted from the YKS list.  If you are one of the «guilty», you will have to resubmit your surname(s).  Remember, you and only you are responsible for updating your information when there is a change.  It is easy enough to do, just send it to me and I will do all the rest.  Just a little request.  No matter how much I would love to help you lookup details of your ancestors, the YKS list is only a list of surnames and researchers.  These are not my names and I cannot do any lookups.  Requests for lookups are better posted to one of the Yorkshire genealogy lists.  All the best to everyone, Magdalena (in crisp but sunny Maryland) Magdalena Gorrell Guimaraens, YKS Surnames List Administrator For all communications regarding this list:  YKSsurnames@yahoo.com YKS Home Page and submission instructions:  http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/YKSlist/ .........................................
