Hello, List Three connected questions: Firstly, can anyone point me towards a source giving the house numbers used in North Road Preston from the 1830's to the 1860's? An 1835 map shows that there was then very little housing in the triangle formed by Upper Walker Street, Moor Lane and North Road, but I have found from certificates and censuses that over a period several of my ALBERT ancestors lived in a number of dwellings along North Road (120, 220, 234, 239, 251, 253 and 278). The most intriguing (to me) is number 278, the home at the time of his death of my 3xg grandfather Charles ALBERT, who probably from about 1825 until his death was what was described in Baines as "gentleman" and on his death certificate as "yeoman", of North Road. This suggests he was a farmer, with his own land and workforce. I shall look at tithe records etc at the LRO later on, but any suggestions in the meantime would be welcome. Secondly, is there anywhere I would find information as to the types of housing in that quite short stretch of North Road? One of my ancestors moved around quite a bit in North Road - it would be nice to know why! And finally, I'm a bit confused by references to both Park Lane and North Road. Am I right in thinking that North Road or part of it was once called Park Lane, extending as it did from what used to be Park Road (which has also gone, obliterated by the Ringway). Has North Road always ended, as it does now, at the junction with Moor Lane, the two then becoming Garstang Road? I would be grateful for any pointers (including any references to check out at the LRO). I've walked the length of North Road many times in my younger days, but now most of the old dwellings and their numbers have disappeared. If only I had known! I'd be grateful for any pointers.
