I have just received a marriage certificate for 20 December 1924 at St Thomas Church between Richard Whitfield age 23 a Slater of 19 Egan Street, Preston and Agnes Mainwaring age 20 a Weaver of 34 Cambridge Street. Witnesses were Grace and William Fowler (Grace was Richard's sister). Richard Whitfield was the step brother of my late Father, I never knew of him until the 1901 Census came out. Agnes Mainwaring is my 'mystery' as she was born circa 1904 she is, of course, not on the 1901 which is a pity. The marriage cert. shows her father to be Harry Mainwaring a Hairdresser. And, I am searching in the dark to find her birth not knowing where she was born. I just wonder if anyone has come across a Mainwaring family in the Preston area with a Hairdresser (maybe Barber) in the family ? In 1926 Richard and Agnes were living at 61 Frank Street where their son Kenneth Edward Whitfield age 5 months died. Richard died age 29 at 72 Havelock Street in 1931. I feel sure there were more children born to Richard and Agnes after their marriage in 1924 and Richard's untimely death in 1931 and would love to find out more on the family. Were there more children, did Agnes remarry ? Any help appreciated. Kind regards, Pauline
