Would anyone have any information on these people...... a James Toop who was born in Bath, England ? in 1828 and died June 2,1875 at age 47. He was buried in St. Mark's Churchyard, Bath. Hi, Marge, I have seen some of your recent notes and they seem to start with a query about "John Joseph MCCANNA born about 1798 in Ireland. He married Mary SMITH about 1820 in Preston" which was very appropriate to this list. Then your queries moved to Cornwall which is in the south west corner of England quite a distance from Preston. Similarly this query relates to Bath which is only a little closer to Preston. If you look at Genuki ( www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/ ), go to "Gazetteers" and enter Bath, you will get a selection of places, use the down button.. It is probably the "Bath, Somerset" one you need, it being the largest place. There is a page relating to some aspects of genealogy for Bath. If you then go up to the Somerset page (http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/SOM/ ), there are details there about the various family history societies that cover the area. Returning to the original enquiry about McCANNA, this name tends to be recorded in the Preston area as McKENNA so you need to be aware of this alternative spelling. However, the previous posting to the list from Fran Luby also relates to McCANNA.
