Can anyone tell me if there is a Business directory for Preston online for the middle of the 1800s Also posting my reseach interests---- Andertons of Preston and Blackburn--Butlers of Preston-- Gillett of Preston-- Greenwood of Preston--Calderwood Of Preston -- Ashworth of Rochdale. Thanks Peter of Western Australia
There is an 1830ish Preston Directory on line which I didn't bookmark but will hunt for if no one else provides it quickly. I have a part letter, undated, from E. Gillet, but 1870s I'd guess, regarding owed money and hard times. Refers to Mr G being out of work. I'd thought they were probably Thomas and Eleanor Gillet (nee Swarbrick) who, in the 1881 Census, were living at Grayton Street, Fishwick. Maybe co-incidentally and un connected, but in the 1891 Census, my grant aunt Mary Elizabeth Potter worked as a housekeeper for John H. Gillet. 39, a Handkerchief Printer, in Gravel Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire. -----Original Message----- From: Peter & Ivy Heptinstall [mailto:piheppy@netserv.net.au] Sent: Monday, June 27, 2005 8:42 PM To: ENG-LANCS-PRESTON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: preston business directory Can anyone tell me if there is a Business directory for Preston online for the middle of the 1800s Also posting my reseach interests---- Andertons of Preston and Blackburn--Butlers of Preston-- Gillett of Preston-- Greenwood of Preston--Calderwood Of Preston -- Ashworth of Rochdale.
