You can find a host of Historic Business Directories at a site run by the University of Leicester www.historicdirectories.org Take some time to study the guide tips to using the various searches as individual towns are often hidden in broad county titles for instance to find the Preston Directory for 1828-29 enter Lancashire then scroll through the drop down lists until you find Pigot & Co's Directory of 1828-29 Part 1 Cheshire to Northumberland. Preston starts on image (and page) 435 of 624 total. With patience you will find others including the 'General and Commercial Directory, Preston, 1917. Highly recommended!
