    2. Jim Lancaster
    3. Hi, Carrie, You ask > Is there such a place as Penninghame Leigh in Lancaster? There are three places named in your question. Working backwards, Lancaster (as a name standing alone) is a City on the River Lune, in the north of Lancashire (or County of Lancaster). People often get confused between the city and the county. In your question, I think you are referring to the county. Leigh is now part of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, and Pennington (not Penninghame) is a smaller place to the south of Leigh. If you go to http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LAN/ click on Gazetteer and enter Pennington in the Search box, you will get pointers to most of the information you require. The GENUKI site is a very useful and very comprehensive site for information about genealogical matters in the UK, but NO people information - just where to get. Hope this helps Jim Lancaster (Bury, LAN)
