Hi All I wonder if anyone on the list could tell me if there would be any records of workers employed by the John Horrocks Centenary Mill at Preston or The Yellow Factory as it was called before being renamed. Many of my grandfathers families including his father and grandfather worked at both these mills and I would be interested to know if there would be any records in existence anywhere. Their names were CARTER. I would really appreciate if anyone could give me any info whatsoever on these mills ( I have seen the Lancashire Hotpots site and I think it is truly marvellous!!! Can you point me in the right direction. Thanks in anticipation Noelene Jones Townsville Australia

Dear Noelene, I saw two directories at the Preston Public Library on the downtown Square for, I believe, the years 1818 and 1827. I think that these books had an alphabetical listing of the people of Preston and where they worked. I saw these book last in 1983 so I am not positive. Best of luck searching. I am descended from William Ferguson, the son of Andrew Ferguson of Preston, that went to St. John the Divine Church. William went to Sydney Australia and my branch of the family lost all contact with those that emigrated to Australia. Dean W. Sandeman 1215 Liberty ST. Oshkosh, WI 54901-3631.
