    3. My Great great grandmother Priscilla GREEN nee SOUTHALL, widow of Thomas GREEN, in her later years went to stay with a daughter in Preston, she died 7 Aug 1910, aged 81 years, place 70 North Road, Preston, informant Percy FORDAKER, son-in-law. Priscilla was bought home to Hunslet Cemetery where I have her burial plot. My puzzle is I have only one daughter Sarah who married David PENDLEBURY and came to Western Australia in 1906. Who is the other daughter and more of a puzzle is that I cannot find the name of FORDAKER, no marriage. Has any listers come across the name of FORDAKER anywhere??? Can SKS find him on the 1891 in Preston? I cannot seem to find the name on the 1881. I have used other spellings Fordacre etc. HELP please. Molly Bergh Esperance Western Australia

    3. Hi, Molly, You wrote > My Great great grandmother Priscilla GREEN nee SOUTHALL, widow of Thomas GREEN, she died 7 Aug 1910, aged 81 years, place 70 North Road, Preston, informant Percy FORDAKER, son-in-law.< > Who is the other daughter and more of a puzzle is that I cannot find the name of FORDAKER, no marriage. > Can SKS find him on the 1891 in Preston? I cannot seem to find the name on the 1881. I have checked the surname indexes for the Preston district RG12/3428 - 3443 but I was unable to find any FORDAKER or similar. You clearly have a death certificate. Is it a photocopy or a hand written transcript. If it is a photocopy, then you may need to ask someone else for their opinion. If it is a hand-written copy, then it may be worth asking to Registrar to confirm the name of the informant (without saying what they wrote last time), explaining that you have not been able to find any instances of the surname they gave you in the 1881 Census for the whole of Great Britain. Incidentally there are no references to this in the 1999 Genealogical Research Directory, which adds support to it not being a surname. My feeling is that the initial letter was probably rather ornate and hence difficult to read. My GUESS is that the name MAY be HARDAKER, or similar. If the 'H' has a strong first upright and a weak second one this could be mis-read as an 'F'. Putting my money where my mouth is, here are the references to this name in the Preston area in 1891. RG12/3429 Hardacre fol 017 RG12/3431 Hardiker fol 033, 035A, 083 RG12/3432 Hardiker fol 030 RG12/3434 Hardiker fol 029 RG12/3436 Hardiker fol 143 RG12/3437 Hardacre fol 060 Hardiker fol 038 RG12/3440 Hardicker fol 123 RG12/3441 Hardacre fol 088 RG12/3442 Hardicker fol 151 RG12/3443 Hardacre fol 019 Hardiker fol 020, 049 Unfortunately, I don't have easy access to the Census film. Perhaps if you get the certificate checked so that you are sure of the name, someone may be able to look though the Electoral Rolls in the Harris Library in Preston for you to check for the son-in-law living in North Road. Hope this helps Jim Lancaster (Bury, LAN)
